Excuse me, Noelle, but I find your stances to be particularly unsympathetic here. There are certainly many clear-minded conservatives in this country, but I don't believe that's what you're representing here. You are making cruel assumptions about the un- and underemployed people of this nation and their use of government assistance programs like SNAP, the Suplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps is an outmoded term, mind you). I think it takes a lot of audacity to claim that so many people are abusing the system to care for themselves and their "litters of children" without a smidge of evidence other than your own created convictions. I think you need to have some sympathy for those that fall on hard times and need some help other than the trickle down economics that you seemingly promote (and you don't have to look far to find out that way of thinking isn't the most effective). Not everyone is looking for something for nothing, Noelle. People that use government assistance aren't necessarily lazy or stupid, but rather are mostly victims of tough times and circumstances that are beyond them. I want you think and do some research before you write such harsh, unapologetic criticism. I know this a blog, and there are little requirements as such (I know as a former Patch employee), but please try to do your homework, take care to abide by some journalistic standard, and not be so cruel.

I apologize. The Wisconsin Act 35 does require training, however how much is not specified and online courses also suffice. I think that a nonspecific amount of safety training that can be completed relatively quickly online is not adequate for allowing individuals to carry a concealed weapon in public.

Respectfully, no training is required to obtain a concealed carry permit in the state of Wisconsin (the four hour training mandate was quickly abandoned after the bill's passage), so those that are carrying a concealed weapon aren't necessarily trained to be aware of their surroundings and to avoid conflict but rather met the qualifications to obtain a permit.

    Very well-reasoned, Brian.

Months ago, on an assignment, I attended a portion of a concealed carry training course (no longer required, mind you), and I was absolutely horrified at the number of people that incorrectly assessed the practice scenarios presented to them. More often than not, participants drew their weapons – even shot to kill – in all scenarios, even the ones where the "bad guys" were unarmed or there were no "bad guys" present at all. This was terrifying to me. If individuals were this quick to draw during a simulation, imagine what the response would be in everyday life.

Now, people who have permits may be decent, level-headed individuals, but as you said, you're not a criminal until you are. I'm concerned that when tensions are high and people feel threatened, they may act unexpectedly and irrationally – they did, after all in pre-programmed scenarios.

Well put everyone. Considering the dwindling honeybee populations across the country, the Metzes should be allowed to keep their hive thriving. They're doing a service to the environmental community, and I commend them.

Agreed! Being honest and being open sounds like top notch mom qualities to me.

I think that's an excellent promise to stick to. Any others?

I think I'm learning a lot here, especially about knowing when to let go.

Are there any silly things that you thought you'd never do as a mom? I know a lot of moms in my family said they'd never embarrass their kids, but somehow that's managed to happen once or twice.

I think that's very practical advice just to relax a little bit.
And a bowl or two of Trix has never caused too much trouble. :)
