  • On the article Greendale Kicks Off 75th Anniversary With National Historic Landmark Designation

A big Thank You to all that attended! I had fun myself, being a volunteer (there were many of us!). It was quite a sight to see all of the dignitaries show up and speak to the public. It is you, the citizens of Greendale, that make this Village so enjoyable to live in. Making the National Historic Landmark is something only you can make happen. Look for a small video clip of Wednesday's event show up soon!

But, we're not done yet! August 7-11 is Village Days and will be an even bigger event, starting off with our Retro 40's Night from 5PM-9PM on the 7th. Mark your calendars!

Congratulations, GSD! Being a Greendale HS graduate myself, I am so glad to see that our schools are still the best. Does anybody know when this List was created? Just curious.

    Great blog, David!

I got a confirmation from Village Hall that the postmaster will be at Village Hall to stamp and mail your letters from 1:00PM to 4:00PM. So, residents, please bring your ready-stamped mail to Village Hall to get this unique stamp cancellation. It's the outline of Village Hall and is an awesome way to commemorate today's event! Send a letter to yourself too! The Visitor's Center has postcards for 50 cents, but I'm not sure if the stamp will be too big for postcards.

If you were at the meeting, you would have noticed this quote was taken out of context. He also continued on saying this provision doesn't belong in the "budget" part of the legislature. There is a second article for this.

Bren, you need to let your voice be heard. Please, I urge you to talk to or e-mail the Trustees, including President Hermes. Nothing will get solved on this Patch forum.

As for donations, I do believe the Hose Tower just obtained a large sum of money. I don't have the minutes, but it was fairly recent. That's usually done by the Historical Society - not the Trustees themselves. But, yes, they can help (and do).

In fact, the Chamber of Commerce and the Public Celebrations Commitee need help handing out flyers for promoting the May 1st, 2013 75th Anniversary Event this Saturday, March 30th. Please feel free to join us. 11AM behind Village Hall.

I understand your view, Bill, but let the ad-hoc committee continue to do its job. Personally, with our new Historical Landmark status, I'm willing to bet someone will step up and want to keep it. Remember, Greendale has a lot of other parcels that need to sell/lease too. There's the old Vic Tanny, Southridge openings, etc.

Let's get through the elections and then move forward. You're always free to make comments at the Village Board meetings. It's not a big deal...I've done it a few times. They may not take any action (due to it not being on the agenda), but they'll definitely listen to you and take notes. The Trustees work for us, so they need to know what the public wants. This goes for any issue. The next meeting is Election Day @7:00PM.

It was a nice relief to attend a debate and not have the candidates taking jabs at each other. Instead, it was a well-mannered (sometimes funny!) debate. The candidates even stuck around afterwards to answer any questions.

To me, there really wasn't any "bad" answers to the questions asked - just different ways to answer it. Each of them had good ideas.

Most of those questions did not need to be asked if more of the public went to the Village Board meetings. They are held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month at Village Hall @ 7:00PM. Also, I urge residents to read the quarterly mailer that is sent out. There is a LOT of information in there.

If you ever do have questions about Greendale, I have found that approaching the Trustees and President has been incredibly easy. All it takes is a simple phone call or e-mail.

Thank you to the League of Women Voters of Greendale for hosting the event, the candidates for answering the questions, and the other volunteers that made this debate happen.

Seeing this video upsets me. Ever since that sad day and two Ava Walk's later, I still stop and look at least twice in every direction before proceeding. Hopefully, Chief Malasuk sees this and puts a squad car there.

Having said that, I have seen the unmarked squad (I won't say where) keeping an eye on that intersection. So, it is being patrolled...just not 24/7.

Or vice-versa. You can tailgate at the stadium, then join your Greendale alum at the ballpark.
