"Trying hard to recreate what had yet to be created." - Doobie Brothers As of last Saturday, with some controversy, Greendale, Wisconsin officially became a “Norman Rockwell Village”. We could, without question, do much worse. Better to be a Norman Rockwell Village than say a Salvador Dali Village. Sure, our colors would be impossibly brilliant, but a melting clock on Village Hall would be an annoying, inaccurate timepiece, at best. The Norman Rockwell statue, by any measure, certainly beats a depiction of “The Hallucinogenic Toreador”. Now that would be a traffic hazard. It took three meetings to hammer out the makeup of an ad hoc committee to help plan future development of the Village Center, but the Greendale Village Board has made its decision The committee will include the following members, as recommended by the Committee of the Whole, as well as an additional at-large member to be determined by the ad hoc committee: Six Village Center Stakeholders 10 Greendale residents One at-large member, to be selected by the committee The at-large member was a comprise to allow for the possibility of Greendale residents who are also part of the represented groups, like the Historical Society, to still serve on the committee. On Tuesday, the Village Board will review Committee of the Whole's recommendation to create an ad hoc committee that will help develop a plan for the future of the Village Center.
The Greendale Board of Trustees will decide Tuesday on the structure of a committee that will assist in developing a plan for the future vitality of the Village Center. The Committee of the Whole, made up of village trustees, discussed the committee's structure Wednesday night, after an earlier discussion derailed due to disagreements between board members about Village President John Hermes' original proposal. The formation of an ad hoc committee comes after Village Center redevelopment concept plans for the municipal parking lot were presented at open houses in February and April. A proposal from the village president for the formation of an ad hoc committee that will be charged with helping plan the future vitality of the Village Center in Greendale was met with resistance by some village trustees.
The formation of an ad hoc committee that will assist in planning for the vitality future of the Village Center has been referred to the Committee of the Whole after some trustees were upset with the village president’s proposed plan. Village President John Hermes presented a proposal on Tuesday to form the committee, which would be made up of representatives from different groups that have a stake in the Village Center. Hermes’ said the committee would consider and make recommendations to the Community Development Authority and the Planning Commission regarding the future mission of the Village Center. My home is an original. I do not object to the Rockwell statue. However, at night the glare from the statue's display light makes it hard to see traffic or pedestrians when at the stop sign and headed West on Northway.
