I would not want one of the school board members on the Village Committee. They don't have the strength to stand on their own two feet. I hope they will put a professional on the committee to represent the kids and who will be able to take a stand.   more ›

The coffee shop sells Alterra coffee. There's a BIG difference between that shop which closes way too early and an actual Alterra owned coffee shop, with hours that are conducive with consumers lives. For example, take a ride past Starbucks on 76th Street any night of the week. We often go for a walk through the village at night and think it would be nice to stop for a cup of coffee. Mr. Hermes …   more ›

Why is there a need to find a use for the parking lot? Is it not being used as a parking lot? With the new restaurant going in and the desire to bring more life to the Village Center, don't you think you will need a parking lot? Repave it if that needs to be done but don't do away with it.   more ›

What you have to do is look at areas that have the same kind of "Village" areas like we do. Look at Cedarburg.... why are there stores all still going, and everytime we go there, all the stores are OPEN and usually the streets are crowded with customers. Get stores in there that draw the people. Also you have to gear the type of resturants and stores more in the direction of the middle age 30-60 …   more ›

Concept plans were presented at open houses in February and April. Multi-residential buildings in all five concepts were met with resistance from residents and some Village trustees. Some residents took to the streets after the first open house and passed out hundreds of fliers to Greendale homes. The second open house on April 18 had lines of people waiting to see the concepts and voice their concerns to Village officials. This led to the decision to eliminate the housing portion of the concepts.  Village …

Apartments are no longer part of the Village Center redevelopent concept, Village President John Hermes wrote in a letter to Greendale residents. Last night the Village held an open house that filled the Greendale Safety Center with concern regarding apartment buildings in the five concepts for redevelopment of the municipal parking lot on Parking Street.  Greendale residents Jackie Kraemer and Luke Huberty ran an unofficial exit poll by the door at the open house. Concerns Filled the Open House for Municipal Parking Lot Redevelopment

Residents had a chance to examine the municipal parking lot concepts as well as insert their input into the future of Greendale. Many expressed concern over the amount of parking and the apartment buildings in the concepts.

By 6:15 p.m. there was already a crowd in the room and a line out the door, and by 6:45 p.m. there was no available parking close by. Ironically, parking is one of the issues that drew many people to the open house at the Greendale Safety Center. Greendale residents were encouraged to give feedback on five concept drawings that include apartment buildings for the redevelopment of the municipal parking lot on Parking Street at Wednesday's open house. Board of Trustees member, Carl Genz said this was the biggest meeting turnout he’s ever seen. This was the second open house held for the redevelopment concepts.  Resident Marsha Bialk only found out about these concepts a few days before the open house and was frustrated that there had not …

i think that having a small condo building would be a wonderful idea, they would be close to down town, as well as southridge with the new macy's shop there. think of how much economic stimulation condo residents would bring to the down town area. as stated by another greendale resident, these people will have money to invest into the village. greendale has very little space to branch out its …   more ›

Facebook Page Created in Response to Redevelopment in Village Center

The 'Concerned Residents of Greendale' Facebook page was set up by a grassroots watchdog group in response to redevelopment concepts for the Municipal Parking Lot in the Village Center that include apartment buildings.

The Facebook page Concerned Residents of Greendale was created by village residents in response to redevelopment concepts for the Municipal Parking Lot in the Village Center that include apartment buildings. The page states, “This is a grass roots watch dog group set up to monitor the actions and plans of Greendale WI's Village Board of Trustees. The Board has a poor method of informing busy residents of major changes in the community, i.e. Walmart, LED signs and apartment building in the Village parking lot.” The page had five likes as of April 10, and includes stories about the redevelopment proposals that have run on Greendale Patch and in the Journal Sentinel, and contact information for trustees and school board members. The same …

Bren you make some wonderful points, In going to some of these meetings I have noticed that the president and manager are very keen and focused on the apartments- it appears to be their idea. In their diverse offering of plans, why does every single one include apartments(and is that really diverse)? We still don't know who paid for the plans. We are trying to find out if any trustees will tell …   more ›
