Three Treated After Woman Uses Pepper Spray in Southridge

A woman fighting with security was arrested, while paramedics from three communities assisted in treating people exposed to the pepper spray.

Three people were treated after a woman discharged pepper spray at Southridge Mall about 1:55 p.m. May 11, according to the Greendale Police Department call sheet.  The woman was resisting security in the food court near Rocky Rococo and was taken into custody for retail theft, police said. Paramedics from Greendale, Greenfield and Hales Corners arrived at the scene to treat people exposed to the pepper spray, including one person with asthma and heart history and a pregnant woman with abdominal pain.

Construction of U.S. Cellular across from Southridge Mall Begins

The new store is being built on a Walmart outlot on 76th Street in Greendale and should be completed this summer.

Construction of the new U.S. Cellular store on 76th Street in Greendale began this week on an outlot of Walmart. The new store, which replaces a smaller store in Greenfield at the corner of 76th Street and Edgerton Avenue, is expected to be completed this summer. Chick-fil-A will occupy the other outlot to the south, but the chain restaurant is not expected to be built until sometime next year. U.S. Cellular's opening is the latest addition to the the 76th Street commercial corridor.

Trio of Heroes Save Man's Life at Southridge Mall

A Greendale police detective, a mall security sergeant and a citizen helped save the life of 61-year-old Loreto Piczon, who suffered a heart attack while walking in the mall.

Since coming from California to Wisconsin to visit his daughter, Loreto Piczon had become a mall walker at Southridge, doing laps around the mall with dozens other before stores open. One lap in late March was nearly Piczon’s last. At approximately 9:45 a.m. March 30, Piczon, 61, suffered what should have been a life-taking heart attack. Should have been, had it not been for an alert and capable trio. Mall security Sgt. Joel Rose was one of the first men to reach Piczon after a citizen dialed 911. He immediate began performing CPR by providing Piczon with emergency breathing. He was also quick to request an automated exterior defibrillator. Lawrence Shikes of Milwaukee saw what was going on and after finding another citizen to tend to his …

Chick-fil-A Coming to Greendale Later Than Expected

The restaurant was initially believed to be headed to 76th Street this summer. But that's not the case, the company now says.

It appears Chick-fil-A, the national chicken restaurant chain, is still coming to Greendale. Just not as soon as previously expected. Village officials approved the building of a 4,779-square-foot Chick-fil-A for one of the Walmart outlots back in October 2012. At that time, Chick-fil-A representatives indicated the 109-seat restaurant with a drive-through, outdoor seating and indoor playground would be built by July or August on South 76th Street, just across the street from Southridge Mall. Brenda Morrow, with the Atlanta-based restaurant’s public relations department, however, said no Greendale restaurant plans are in the works this year. “Too soon to communicate anything other than we plan to come to Greendale in 2014,” Morrow said in …

@Jason, your immature comments do not intimidate me at all. Go whine and cry somewhere else about your political views. Chick-Fil-A is closed on Sundays to honor God. If you can't handle that, to bad. I can't wait until they open next year. If you don't like it, go find a supposed politically correct restaurant and keep your biased comments to yourself.   more ›

What Will 76th Street's Next 'Big Thing' Be?

The stretch from Greenfield's northern border to Grange Avenue in Greendale has been revitalized over the last two years, but there could be more additions, changes to come.

Last week, Designer Shoe Warehouse opened its doors to shoe lovers, quickly filling the vacancy created when Borders left Greendale. Next week, it’s LongHorn Steakhouse’s turn to turn on the lights for good, as the popular restaurant opens its third Wisconsin location with a grand opening Monday. DSW and LongHorn Steakhouse represent a slew of new additions or improvements along the Greendale and Greenfield stretch of 76th Street, from Grange Avenue to the south to just north of Cold Spring Road, that are part of a revitalization of one of the more vibrant shopping and commercial corridors in southeastern Wisconsin. “It’s an incredibly important and vibrant commercial district," Greenfield Mayor Michael Neitzke said. "Greendale had done a …
