Man Accidentally Shoots Self In Leg at Southridge

A 65-year-old was trying to secure weapon in his vehicle when it accidentally discharged.

A 65-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the leg about 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Southridge parking lot. According to Greendale Police Department logs, the man was attempting to secure the weapon in his vehicle when the gun discharged. Paramedics transported him to the hospital. The log also showed a 21-year-old man was arrested in the incident, but the reason wasn't clear. It's the second time in a little more than a year that a gun was accidentally fired on Southridge property. In November 2011, an off-duty Milwaukee police officer inadvertently discharged his weapon while shopping.

Jason: Did Wisconsin's Concealed Carry law really have anything to do with the off-duty cop at Southridge? The Law Enforcement officers Safety Act of 2004 allowed off duty cops to carry in all 50 states. Prior to that law, I believe that off duty officers in Wisconsin could conceal carry in their jurisdiction if their local department allowed it.   more ›

Burger King on 76th Street Closed for Remodeling

It's another example of a business improving its look along busy 76th Street.

Burger King, 4980 S. 76th St., closed last week as construction crews give the fast-food restaurant a new look. The restaurant, is expected to reopen later this month or in early November. When the renovations began, the restaurant’s drive-thru remained opened, but the city’s health department stepped in and stopped the drive-thru operations Oct. 4. While the remodeling does not directly impact the kitchen and food preparation areas, it does impact the access of staff to appropriate restroom facilities, and per the state’s food code, staff must have access to those facilities, Greenfield Health Director Darren Rausch wrote in an email. I don't think a renovation will make anything better. Their service will still suck.   more ›

Clinton Kelly Tells It Like It Is at Macy's Grand Opening

Style guru and co-star of "What Not To Wear" and '"The Chew" entertains and educates crowd on trends and tips for dressing yourself to get what you want in life

It's a bit disconcerting meeting someone who has made his living at critiquing style choices. What could you wear that wouldn't raise an eyebrow, or make him ask, "What was she thinking?" However, Clinton Kelly in person is down to Earth, and is quick to state that, much like journalists who can spot a typo from miles away, he sees fashion mishaps the same way. "I don't judge people on how they've chosen to dress, but I do see mistakes in their choices, and I want to help correct that," he said. A self-admitted flip-flop wearer — a faux pas that he indulges in only within the confines of his own home, of course — Kelly made an appearance at a fashion show to help Macy's at Southridge celebrate its grand opening on Saturday. He said he sees…

Christmas Already? But it's Only September

Why is there a need to start the "Christmas season" earlier and earlier every year?

Is that the sun?* After days of constant dreariness and gloominess (unless you’re a Brewers fan), the clouds disappeared and the sun came out to make for a pretty good fall afternoon. Leaves are just starting to fall to the ground, neighbors are starting to put out some Halloween decorations and the high school football regular season is already two-thirds complete. It’s September. It’s fall in Wisconsin. So why the heck are stores already selling Christmas decorations? Last weekend, I visited Brookfield Square’s JCPenney. When I got to the home living section, I stopped dead in my tracks to see Christmas trees, ornaments and other holiday decorations. It was Sept. 23! More than a month before Halloween. Two months away from Thanksgiving. …

I believe that Thanksgiving should be celebrated in October! That is the month of the harvest and the Harvest Moon. There is no harvested food to be brought to the table in November. It all has to be truck in and more cost to the consumer. Let the end of October celebrate the harvest and our being Thankfull and the kids can do the Halloween and Trick'r'Treat. Then November could be as straight …   more ›
