Village Identifies Nearly $1 Million in Potential Road Upgrades

The Public Works Department wish list includes repairs on five roads and an expensive light replacement project.

The Greendale Public Works Department has identified nearly $1 million in street repairs it would like to tackle in 2013. In a memo to the Village Board dated Jan. 11, Engineer Len Roecker outlined the recommended road projects for the 2013 construction season. The recommended improvements include four streets: None of those street segments have had significant improvements made in 20 or more years, and the estimated cost for repairs is $544,000. Most of the proposed road repairs call for a milling and overlaying of asphalt, a cheaper alternative to pulverizing the roads. Another costly project would be the replacement of street lighting in the southeast and northeast quadrants of Eastway. According to the memo, the lights on that street …

Packers Fans Advised to Leave Extra Time Sunday

Many road projects have concluded but motorists should still expect delays.

If you're heading to Lambeau Field on Sunday to see the Green Bay Packers take on the Minnesota Vikings in a key NFC showdown, be prepared to give yourself some extra time so you don't miss the opening noon kickoff. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT), some road construction continues on major roads in northeast Wisconsin. And while most projects have concluded for the year, drivers might still encounter road conditions in some remaining work zones that could cause backups. WisDOT strongly recommends motorists allow themselves additional time while traveling this weekend. The following is a list of the major roads in northeast Wisconsin most Packers fans will be traveling and the road conditions they should …

Most Road Construction Done in Time for Thanksgiving Travel

Deer hunters and holiday travelers will encounter fewer orange barrels on major highways.

From the Wisconsin Department of Transportation Although most major road construction projects have concluded for the year, drivers traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday may encounter some ongoing work and should be prepared for orange barrels, lane shifts, and reduced speeds. "Because of the extraordinary road construction season this year, we’ve been able to wrap up the majority of projects before Thanksgiving," said Don Greuel of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s (WisDOT) Project Services Section. "There no longer are detours on major highways for construction projects, but there are a few spots where lane restrictions are still in place." WisDOT expects traffic to be heavy on Friday, November 16, as deer hunters flock to…

Construction Slows Route to EAA Airventure

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation warns motorists to be prepared for construction slow-downs on Route 41 heading to the EAA convention in Oshkosh.

From a Wisconsin Department of Transportation press release:  The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region is reminding motorists heading to EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, that while US 41 road construction may be taking a brief break during the annual event in Winnebago County, drivers will still encounter road conditions in work zones that could cause backups, requiring patience and advanced planning. The week-long event is being held July 23-29 at Wittman Regional Airport.  People driving to the event should allow extra time to navigate construction along US 41 between Breezewood Lane in Neenah and 9th Avenue in Oshkosh. Speed limits within this segment of highway have been reduced to 55 mph. Motorists are also reminded that …

Construction to Close Westbound Airport Spur

Starting Wednesday, the westbound portion of the airport spur will be closed to traffic. Eastbound (into the airport) will still be open.

Again? The WisDOT bozo's just don't get it. Repeatedly screwing up the access to an international airport that just angers the average citizen. Ever try to follow their detour signage, especially at night? I swear they have a grade schooler and a crayon laying it out. Or maybe the municipal engineers in the surrounding area are just that incompetent too. Call, write or email Dewayne Johnson, the …   more ›

Your One-Stop Prep Manual for Holiday Weekend Travel

Traffic could be busiest on Sunday, as gun deer season comes to a close.

A few significant road construction projects present the promise of slower traffic over the busy Thanksgiving weekend. Be prepared in order to make the best of it. According to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, here are some of the more significant projects that could impact the trip to grandma’s house: Those who are staying in Milwaukee in order to bring Black Friday to its knees should note these two sticky spots: Weather should not slow you much, as highs are expected mostly in the 50s in southeastern Wisconsin, with chances of just light rain. More challenging could be the expected heavy traffic on Sunday, when the gun deer season also wraps up and hunters are on their way home. Highways should be slightly more congested this…
