Republican lieutenant governor says Wisconsin is "in better shape today than we were before, and we're not done yet."
With a collective sigh of relief, we can now look back at the time since Governor Walker and I took office, and size up the accomplishments of the last two years. Although we've seen things unprecedented and unpredictable, our experiences have made us stronger. We have a lot to be proud of. Our successes give us new perspective, though, and through the lens of a state pursuing economic competitiveness, we see we have a lot of room to grow in our future. Despite the rampant wrong turns from our federal government, Wisconsin is finally on the path to prosperity. We inherited a $3.6 billion budget deficit that has been balanced without raising taxes. The South Carolina governor hit the campaign trail with Gov. Scott Walker, landing on the factory floor at Quad/Graphics to implore workers to go out and vote.
Hundreds of Quad/Graphics Inc. workers flooded the factory floor Friday afternoon as Gov. Scott Walker and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley addressed employees, asking for their votes on Tuesday. Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch kicked-off the “grassroots rally” at the factory, introducing Gov. Walker to an enormous round of applause. The national Tea Party Express has been a prominent player on the Wisconsin recall scene for nearly a year, and on Monday, it promised to remain one until Election Day. The Dane County judge presiding over the lawsuit for Voter ID has set a brief schedule that puts any resolution several weeks past the June 5 recall election.
Any hope that the Voter ID issue could be resolved in time for the spring recall elections died today when Judge David Flanagan set the briefing schedule for the case. According to a story from The Associated Press, Flanagan set the schedule so final briefs are not due until two weeks after the recall elections conclude. The judge said he chose the dates because Voter ID is complicated and attorneys need time to properly draft their arguments. Flanagan issued a temporary injunction last month after the Milwaukee branch of the NAACP and Voces de la Frontera filed a lawsuit alleging that the Voter ID law disenfranchised too many voters. A four-day bench trial over which Flanagan presided wrapped up Thursday, but he didn't hear oral arguments…

Could Wisconsin politics get any weirder? Wait, don't answer that question. Now, we've got a Republican primary because Arthur Kohl-Riggs, a guy running as a "progressive Republican" has thrown his hat into the ring.
Arthur Kohl-Riggs, a scruffy-haired 23-year-old political activist who used to serve pizza at the Children’s Museum in Madison until a few weeks ago, says he is not a "fake Republican." But he’s not a traditional Republican, either. Kohl-Riggs is running against Gov. Scott Walker in the Republican primary after he collected and turned in more than 2,200 signatures to the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board this week. If the GAB, which oversees elections in Wisconsin, votes to allow him on the ballot, Kohl-Riggs will be Walker's sole opponent in the May 8 primary. A year after Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill became law, recall petitioners have successfully triggered a recall election of Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch.
Enough petition signatures have been verified to trigger a recall of Gov. Scott Walker and Lt. Gov. Rebecca Kleefisch, state election officials decided Monday. The state Government Accountability Board voted 5-0 to order the recall election. If a primary election is needed, it will be held May 8. The general election date will be June 5. This is the first time in Wisconsin history a governor is up for a recall election. According to the Chicago Sun-Times, there have only been two successful gubernatorial recalls in U.S. history — against California Gov. Gray Davis in 2003 and North Dakota Gov. Lynn Frazier in 1921. Mahlon Mitchell, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin, announced Monday that he is running for lieutenant governor in the recall election against incumbent Rebecca Kleefisch. Dane County Judge Richard Niess has signed off on dates proposed by the Government Accountability Board.
Well, Wisconsin, we have confirmed recall election dates. The Associated Press is reporting that Dane County Circuit Judge Richard Niess has signed off on the May 8 and June 5 dates proposed by the Government Accountability Board after attorneys from the GAB, recall committees and recall candidates signed off on the deal. Republican Party of Wisconsin Executive Director Stephan Thompson issued a written statement saying the party agrees with Niess' decision. "We're pleased with today’s ruling by Judge Niess, which grants the Government Accountability Board an extension for certification of recall petitions.
