Village officials and the restaurant staff celebrated the grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Monday.
With a line of initial customers lined up outside the door, LongHorn Steakhouse opened for business Monday. The new restaurant, the third LongHorn to open in Wisconsin, is the newest addition to 76th Street and Southridge Mall area. At 5220 S. 76th St., LongHorn, along with Panda Express just to the south, have replaced the former Leath Furniture building. Village officials celebreated the grand opening with restaurant staff during a ceremonial ribbon-cutting event.

The Southridge Mall renovation is attracting new stores inside and outside the mall, which includes restaurant Longhorn Steakhouse, Panda Express and Chick-a-Fil.
Ann Taylor Loft and Justice might open at Southridge Mall, according to paperwork from the Village of Greendale. The Milwaukee Business Journal also reported that Body Central is among the new stores opening inside the mall. Southridge Manager Mary Mokwa said she was not able to yet confirm the tenants. The $52 million renovation has drawn a number of new tenants both inside and outside the mall, most notably the recent openings of Macy’s and H&M. Tilly’s, Teavana, Bachrach, Crazy 8, and Journeys Kidz will also open in the mall this fall. Meanwhile outside the mall, Panada Express and proposed Longhorn Steakhouse and Chick-Fil-a are opening on 76th Street. Longhorn Steakhouse is coming to Southridge Mall. Mall Manager Mary Mokwa said Thursday that the lease has been signed, and that the restaurant will occupy part of the old Leath Furniture building. Longhorn Steakhouse is a 30 year old chain of restaurants that serve steaks, chicken and fish in a "atmosphere reminiscent of a Western rancher's home." The steakhouse will be built next to a future Panda Express. The Greendale Village Board approved the Panda Express at a portion of the old Leath furniture building on April 17. The old Leath building is undergoing demolition. The building, located on the northwest corner of Southridge Mall, was vacant for several years. Village staff worked with Panda Express on revisions in areas, such as sidewalk extensions, landscape plans, parking spaces sizes and signage. Longhorn Steakhouse, another restaurant, is rumored to be coming alongside Panda Express. The Leath building, which has been vacant for several years, is located on the northwest corner of Southridge Mall. Before Leath Furniture was in the building, Sears Home Life occupied it. The Greendale Planning Commission passed a permit on April 11 for a proposed Panda Express at a portion of the old Leath furniture building subject to conditions set by the planning consultant. As reported earlier by Patch, the Greendale Board of Trustees allowed Sears to split off the property that Leath Furniture previously occupied on 76th street from the main Southridge Mall site where Panda Express would like to build. Village staff will work with Panda Express to make some revisions to the plan. The Planning Commission tabled the restaurant's permit request to give more time for the revisions.
The Greendale Planning Commission on Wednesday tabled a special-use building permit for a proposed Panda Express. As reported earlier by Patch, the Greendale Board of Trustees allowed Sears to split off the property that Leath Furniture previously occupied from the main Southridge Mall site. Hundreds of people came out for the ribbon cutting ceremony and their chance to win a $500 gift card available to three lucky people among the store's first 500 customers .
A line of customers circled the new Southridge Macy’s on Wednesday morning in anticipation of the Grand Opening ribbon cutting ceremony. Macy’s celebrated its grand opening by giving the first 500 customers a $10 gift. Three of those customers were surprised with $500 gift cards. Kathy McNally of Greenfield was one of the lucky customers to win a $500 gift card. "I usually shop out at Mayfair but now that we have one at Southridge, it’s closer to home," McNally said. Southridge Macy's Charity Shopping Day last Saturday raised more than $15,000 for about 40 Milwaukee-area Charities. Organizations sold $5 shopping passes and were able to keep all the proceeds.
