Gov. Scott Walker Subpoenaed in Former Staffer's Trial

Former Walker staffer Kelly Rindfleisch is accused of using county time to complete campaign work for a Republican who lost the lieutenant governor race in 2010.

Gov. Scott Walker has been subpoenaed to testify in the trial of his former aide, Kelly Rindfleisch. WKOW-TV in Madison reports that a subpoena has been served on Walker’s attorney, Michael Steinle and was filed with Milwaukee County Judge David Hanscher. The document was submitted to the courts Friday. Rindfleisch is accused of using county time to complete campaign work for a Republican who lost the lieutenant governor race in 2010, according to the Wisconsin State Journal. Rindfleisch has pleaded not guilty to four felony counts of misconduct in office. Authorities say Rindfleisch committed misconduct while working her government job as deputy chief of staff for Walker, who was then Milwaukee County executive, WKOW-TV reports. …

Why was there not a news article written about the John Doe being closed after 2 years and clearing Walker??? There were multiple articles linking Walker to the John Doe over the past years. Barrett even made false accusations during the recall campaign.   more ›

Would Sheriff Cuts Hurt the Suburbs?

Greendale State Rep. Jeff Stone is concerned that the $3.3 million cut will affect services in Milwaukee County suburbs.

County Executive Chris Abele announced on Monday a proposal to cut the County Sheriff’s budget by $3.3 million and pay the City of Milwaukee just half that amount to take over county park patrols and a portion of the county's 911 calls, according to JSOnline. This cut would mean the layoff of 23 department employees, 21 of them deputies. Part of the plan sends lakefront and park patrols, plus some county 911 calls to Milwaukee police. Abele said this move would provide budget savings. Greendale State Representative Jeff Stone thinks it's not a real solution. "The County Executive's recent proposal to eliminate 23 Sheriff's Deputy positions and to give $1.6 Million to the City of Milwaukee is flawed," Stone said in a release. "It has been …

UPDATE: Sue Black Out as Milwaukee County Parks Director

After 10-year tenure of dealing with budget cuts and still winning awards, Black is "no longer with Milwaukee County," County Executive Chris Abele said Thursday.

Updated at 5 p.m. Thursday to include comments from County Executive Chris Abele. Milwaukee County Parks Director Sue Black was fired by County Executive Chris Able, who declined to say why Black was dismissed after a decade on the job. At an afternoon press conference, Abele declined to give any specific reason for terminating Black, saying only that his responsibility was to make decisions that were in the best interests of county taxpayers. Asked repeatedly what had changed in Black's relationship with the administration, Abele replied that he could not comment on personnel matters and would not indulge in "gossip." "What I owe you as an elected official is the best use of your tax dollars," Abele said. "What I owe you is responsible …

Ambushed Cop, Shot 9 Times, Refused Aid and Ordered Officers to Help Victims

Oak Creek Police Lt. Brian Murphy was the first officer to the scene and was ambushed and shot up to nine times while attempting to help an injured victim. When support arrived, he refused help and ordered officers to go into the temple and help others.

Just more than 24 hours after the tragic mass shooting at the Sikh Temple of Wisconsin in Oak Creek, stories of heroes are emerging as details from the incident are revealed. When an unintelligible call came into the Oak Creek Police Department from a person inside the temple, 21-year department veteran Lt. Brian Murphy entered his squad and was first to the horrific scene just four minutes later. Murphy immediately came upon a wounded victim in the parking lot of the temple, and rushed to assist the person. At that moment, Murphy found himself in a situation most officers will only have to prepare for in their careers. While he was helping the victim, the 51-year-old officer was ambushed by the shooter — now identified as Wade Michael …

Abele Plans Veto of County Board's Citizens United Referendum

County Executive Chris Abele said the cost of adding the question to the ballot — at least $20,000 — is not worth an advisory referendum with no action behind it.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele plans to veto the county board's request for an advisory referendum regarding a well-known U.S. Supreme Court decision, citing the cost of adding it to the ballot. The referendum refers to an oft-criticized 2010 Supreme Court case Citizens United vs. Federal Election Commission, in which the court ruled that the First Amendment protected political spending by corporations and unions in elections. On Thursday, the board voted 14-4 in favor of an advisory referendum that would ask Milwaukee County residents whether they support an amendment to the U.S. Constitution that would essentially override the Supreme Court decision. Abele spokesman Brendan Conway said the county executive agrees with the board's…

It is not just about whether or not the American people can distinguish between truthful and false ads. It is about Politicians reliance on a small group of corporations and individuals to get into office. If you paid for me to get a job, and in that job I would have influence over something that you wanted, more than likely I am going to help you get what you want. So lets say a bill comes up …   more ›

Abele Tells Greendale Chamber Members County is in Better Shape

County Executive Chris Abele spoke to chamber members on Wednesday about some fiscal happenings in Milwaukee County.

In April, in the midst of the recall campaigns, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele went to Opening Day at Miller Park, where he sat between Gov. Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, two men Abele says he gets along with.  Walker quipped about the shirt Abele should have worn to the game: One with arrows pointing left and right, and proclaiming "I'm with stupid." Abele's joke warmed up the crowd at Wednesday’s Greendale Chamber of Commerce event, where he shared promising news about this year's county budget. Last year’s 2011 budget started with a $55 million deficit and about $1 billion in long-term liabilities. Things seem to be looking brighter for the county. Abele said, the latest presented 2012 budget is now poised to go …

Sheriff Clarke Blasts County Exec's Proposed Budget Cuts

Clarke says Abele's $14 million in reductions to Sheriff's Department is "insane."

Editor's Note: When Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele released his proposed 2012 budget, many groups felt the squeeze of budget cuts as Abele attempted to close a $55 million budget gap. Milwaukee County Sheriff David A. Clarke, Jr. is one of those feeling the echo of those cuts. According to a Milwaukee Journal Sentinel article, amid shifting health care costs to employees and retirees, Abele is also slashing the sheriff's budget by $14 million, which the Journal Sentinel says will force Clarke to cancel the sheriff's boot camp program, reduced funds for drug enforcement and criminal investigators as well as a reduction in the department's K9 unit. "I respect and honor the role that the sheriff's office plays in maintaining safety in…

Abele's Campaign Improperly Solicited Donations

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele's Campaign violated a county ban that prohibits soliciting donations from county employees.

Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele improperly solicited donations from county employees during his victorious campaign against Greendale State Rep. Jeff Stone by seeking staffers' attendance at a $50-per-person fundraiser held at Abele's home, reported the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Wednesday. Abele said he was not aware of the ban and would make sure that it doesn't happen again. A campaign aid took responsibility for the mistake and said that a telephone solicitation for a barbecue fundraiser at Abele's mansion had likely been made to about 30 to 40 county employees and to a list of Abele supporters, according to the Journal Sentinel.

County Exec Candidates at Odds on Union Rights; Stone Backs Walker, Abele Opposes Union Exemptions

The Milwaukee County Executive candidates met for a forum at MATC on Friday.

Jeff Stone, a State Assemblyman from Greendale and a candidate for Milwaukee County Executive, said he helped the state push a reset button yesterday when he and the rest of the Assembly voted to pass Gov. Scott Walker’s budget-repair bill in Madison. Stone’s opponent, business owner and civic leader Chris Abele, believes the bill did not do enough to help local municipalities. The candidates met for an hour-long forum Friday morning at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s West Allis campus, an event sponsored by the West Allis-West Milwaukee Chamber Legislative Committee in partnership with the Wauwatosa, Greenfield and South Suburban Chambers of Commerce and attended by more than 50 people. Each candidate was given three minutes to answer …
