Burger King, 4980 S. 76th St., closed last week as construction crews give the fast-food restaurant a new look. The restaurant, is expected to reopen later this month or in early November. When the renovations began, the restaurant’s drive-thru remained opened, but the city’s health department stepped in and stopped the drive-thru operations Oct. 4. While the remodeling does not directly impact the kitchen and food preparation areas, it does impact the access of staff to appropriate restroom facilities, and per the state’s food code, staff must have access to those facilities, Greenfield Health Director Darren Rausch wrote in an email. A corporate spokesman from McDonald's says they saw an opportunity to communicate with their consumers about the calories in their food, but critics say the Olympics sponsor isn't exactly a fitting image of fitness.
If you walked into McDonald’s this week and ordered a meal, you may have noticed a menu board announcing their “Favorites under 400.” According to a story by AdAge, the campaign is being coupled with their Olympics sponsorship. This also the first time you can order McDonald’s food and know the calorie count at the point of purchase. Heather Oldani, director-U.S. communications at McDonald's told AdAge: "We know that we have the opportunity to help our customers feel that much better about the items they're choosing at McDonald's.” The menu board features items that are 400, 300, 200 and 100 calories or less. More than 120 McDonald's restaurants in metro Milwaukee, in the one in Southridge Mall, are kicking off the latest version the popular Monopoly game with a unique deal: You can bring in Monopoly money today to pay for a larger order of fries. The promotion, believed to be the only one of its kind in the country, runs from 10:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. In addition to the free fries, you also receive two peel-tab game pieces from the fry box.
