Greendale loves parades - today was proof, as hundreds marched the streets and trick-or-treated in costume throughout the village. Though the weather was cold and damp, enthusiam was evident everywhere. Children rang door-to-door filling their bags with treats carrying umbrellas while some adults dressed in costume and decorated their yards with scary spiders, cobwebs and pumpkins.

Avoid buying $50 costumes this year.
Is it me or does it seem like the Halloween costume prices keep increasing every year? For the past five years I've spent no less than $50 a costume and they've been nothing fancy. Last year I went economical and made my own Princess Jasmine costume. I ended up spending more on the material and accessories. The bright side was I made my boyfriend’s Aladdin costume with less than $10. I can only imagine what it is like for families with two or more kids to dress up. Knowing kids these days recycling costumes year after year is a no-no. Who wants to be seen in the same costume as last year? A kid's costume can cost anywhere from $20 to $50 and up at Halloween Express. I guess it takes practice and a mother’s touch to make a nice reasonably …

Parade will start later to coincide with new Trick-or-Treat hours in the village.
The annual Halloween Parade in Greendale will start later this year than in years past. Parade participants will line up at 2:30 p.m. at the south end of Broad street near Brinkman Field, for a parade start time of 3 p.m. The parade will take place on Sunday, October 30th, the same day as Trick-or-Treating. The Greendale Public Celebrations Committee voted at their September 13 meeting to change the time of the parade to coincide with the new Trick-or-Treat hours in the village this year. The Greendale Board of Trustees had voted earlier in the week to have evening trick-or-treat hours, from 4-7 p.m., based on feedback from local parents. In previous years, the Halloween Parade had started at noon and trick-or-treat times in Greendale …

The hours have been amended from other years.
The Village Board changed the Trick-or-Treating hours to 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. from the previous years’ hours. The Halloween Parade will be at noon on October 30. Other years Trick-or-Treating is followed after the parade from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. This year the Village Board of Trustees decided to change that to evening hours. Trustee Carl Gentz and other trustees said that they heard resident interest in evening hours. A few of the trustees reminisced on the Trick-or-Treating evening hours they had as children on Tuesday's meeting. The board unanimously voted to amend the hours to evening hours. The public celebrations committee voted to have the parade start at 3 p.m. this year after the Board of Trustees changed the Trick-or-Treating hours. The …
