The Greenfield-Greendale co-op dominated its own sectional Saturday and will have state competitors in all 12 events next weekend.
The Greendale/Greenfield boys swim team’s annual pilgrimage to the UW-Natatorium for the WIAA Division 1 State Swimming and Diving Championships will once again take place this weekend. But this time the PantherHawks might have outdone themselves. The co-op won seven of 12 events to easily win its own sectional Saturday at Greenfield High School, but perhaps even more impressive is that the PantherHawks qualified for state in every event. Event winners automatically qualified for the state meet, as did the 18 best non-winning sectional efforts statewide. Greendale/Greenfield sophomore Rick Perez was among those who took the former route multiple times. Perez won the 200-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 56.44 seconds, the fourth-best …

Shaun Fleischhacker, a four-year varsity swimmer and a state relay champion, constructed a medal stand for the Greenfield-Greendale co-op swim program as part of an Eagle Scout project.
Shaun Fleischhacker climbed the medal stand plenty of times in his four-year career with the Greenfield-Greendale co-op varsity swim team. Only problem was he rarely did it at his home pool. The state relay champion took care of that for future PantherHawks with the donation of a medal stand he created, along with his scout troop, as part of his Eagle Scout program. “Every meet I go to at a different school, (the school) always has one of these and we didn’t,” Fleischhacker told the Greenfield School Board on Monday. “It seemed like something that could enhance the sport at our school.” Fleischhacker’s stand was constructed of wood and painted green with gold numbers, and was made in two pieces with elevated steps on both sides and room …

The Greenfield/Greendale co-op will participate in eight events in Madison on Saturday.
The annual tradition of the Greenfield/Greendale co-op boys swimming team having an impact on the state scene will continue Saturday in Madison. The PantherHawks won their sectional at Greenfield on Saturday and qualified swimmers in eight events for Saturday’s WIAA State Division 1 Meet at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium. Leading the way is varsity newcomer Rick Perez, a standout freshman who was a three-time sectional winner. Perez won the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 46.93 seconds. He also won the 100 backstroke in 54.77, nearly a full second faster than Racine Case junior John Freidheim (55.71). The freshman star also teamed with Shaun Lucchesi, Shaun Fleischhacker and Andrew Staszak for victory in the 400 free relay in 3:20.…

He and Jungers take four individual medals.
The Greenfield/Greendale co-op swim team knew it would be hard pressed to have a repeat performance of last year’s third-place finish at the WIAA Division 1 State Swim Meet on Saturday. Despite tempered expectations, the PantherHawks were the surprise story midway through the day as they scored 132 points after the first nine events of the 12-team meet. The dream turned to reality as Greenfield/Greendale did not score another point in the final three races, but still finished eighth to complete its season. “We didn’t have much of a 400 free relay at the end,” said PantherHawks head coach Dale Schrank about the final race of the afternoon. “We kind of used up all our ammunition on the front part of the meet, but no complaints with the meet…

Seniors Jungers, Lennertz to lead Greenfield/Greendale's contingent at state meet Saturday.
The WIAA Division 1 Swimming and Diving Meet will be seniors Jack Lennertz and Matt Jungers’ last chance to add to their legacy as two of the Greenfield/Greendale program’s greatest swimmers. Both will compete in two individual events as well as two relays at the University of Wisconsin-Natatorium at 3 p.m. Saturday, and neither is a stranger to the state’s grandest stage. A year ago, the duo teamed with then-senior Mike Lucchesi and others to lead the PantherHawks to third in the team standings. Lennertz and Jungers took first and second in the 100-yard butterfly and were on the winning 200 freestyle relay. Lennertz added a third in the 50 free as did Jungers in the 200 individual medley, and they again joined forces to help the 400 free …
