Ferch's Owner, Park and Rec Director To Be Honored

The Greendale Education Foundation will honor Betty Ferchoff and Jackie Schweitzer at its Celebration of Education next month.

The Greendale Education Foundation will honor the owner of Ferch's Malt Shoppe & Grille and the director of the Greendale Park and Recreation Department at its annual "A Celebration of Education" June 7. Betty Ferchoff and Jackie Schweitzer will be honored for "their commitment to Greendale, its schools and students and the greater community" and will receive the foundation's Inspiration Award, according to a news release. The event begins at 6 p.m. at the Tuckaway Country Club, 6901 W. Drexel Ave., and includes live music by the Greendale High School Jazz Ensemble, raffle items, a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar. Allow us to add our congratulations to Mrs. Schweitzer and Mrs. Ferchoff. This is a well deserved honor that we all should stand up for. I will be attending this wonderful event for our Village. Our Village has spearheaded the Community Learning Center taking the place of our Library and Recreation Program. Hip hip hooray Mrs. Schweitzer. Greendale Education Foundation Starts Program To Help Needy Families

The Greendale Education Foundation started a new program to help families pay for school field trips, school supplies and needed clothing.

Needy families with students enrolled in the Greendale School District can count on assistance from a new program called KidBoosters, according to a story on GreendaleNow. The Greendale Education Foundation started KidBoosters to help students living in poverty because 30 percent of the students attending Greendale Schools are living in poverty, according to the story. Former school superintendent William Hughes and former School Board member Judy Fons came up with the idea because the knew a lot of kids' parents couldn't afford to give them money for things like field trips, school supplies school and coats. School Board Recognizes Education Foundation Board Members

The Greendale School Board recognized members of the Education Foundation, while the new president of the foundation gave a glimpse to what is ahead.

George Vranes and Ken Stauffer were honored at the Greendale School Board meeting for their dedicated years of service to the Education Foundation of Greendale. Vranes has served on the board for 12 years, both as Member-at-Large and Board President. Stauffer has served on the Board for nine years as Board Treasurer. Under their leadership and guidance, thousands of dollars have been raised to support academic excellence in Greendale Schools. Established in 1998, the Education Foundation of Greendale has awarded countless innovative grant requests to help enrich the learning experience for Greendale students.
