Photos: Downtown Greendale Lights Up for the Holidays

Village president John Hermes and Santa Claus led the festivies of the 2012 holiday tree lighting ceremony.

Despite plunging temperatures, hundreds gathered at Greendale Village hall to witness the 2012 holiday lighting ceremony. Village president John Hermes flicked the switch to brighten Greendale's shopping district as well as introduce Santa to many excited children. The Greendale High School choir sang several holiday favorites including "Jingle Bells" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".

Greendale's Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony

The ceremony will be on Nov. 23, and will feature the lighting of holiday lights in the Village Center plus a visit from Santa.

The Greendale Chamber of Commerce and the Village of Greendale will host the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on "Thanksgiving Friday", Nov. 23 in front of Village Hall. Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m., marking the first night the village will be illuminated by 75,000 twinkling lights. Santa will also visit, arriving on a fire engine to deliver treats to boys and girls. This will also be the first of the Village Center's Ultimate Shopping Nights, where many businesses will remain open into the evening. Horse-drawn carriage rides will also be available.
