Come to a pre-game tailgate party at Greendale High School, then board a bus to Miller Park and watch the Milwaukee Brewers host the St. Louis Cardinals on May 5.
To celebrate the Village of Greendale’s 75th anniversary, the Greendale Chamber of Commerce will host a community-wide tailgate party and Milwaukee Brewers game outing May 5. The tailgate party will begin at 10:30 a.m. at Greendale High School, 6801 Southway, and will be held rain or shine. Following the party, fans will board school buses and arrive at Miller Park in time to see the Brewers take on the St. Louis Cardinals at 1:10 p.m. From March 15 through April 5, tickets for the Brewers game may be purchased online only for $20 each (plus a handling fee) through a link on the following websites: www.greendalechamber.com, www.greendale.org, www.greendale.k12.wi.us and www.greendalecelebrations.org. Applications for the $1,000 award are due April 3.
Applications for the Greendale Chamber of Commerce annual scholarship are now available. The organization is giving a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship to a current high school senior who is a Greendale resident who is planning to major in business at a four-year college or university this fall. The application requirements include an application with essay; financial need statement; two letters of recommendation and an official high school transcript. A winner will be chosen based on the following criteria: residency; interest in business as a major; academic qualifications; financial need; community involvement and leadership; and career goals. Colleen Korpal, who will be honored at the Greendale Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet next month, began teaching in Greendale in 2006.
When it came time for the Greendale Chamber of Commerce to select its Charlie Herman Educator of the Year winner, a College Park Elementary School teacher stood out among all the rest. The chamber has named Colleen Korpal the winner of this year's award and will honor her at the organization's annual dinner celebration next month. The Greendale School District hired Korpal in 2006 to teach first grade at College Park. Four years later, Korpal became part of a team of teachers that began looping with first and second grade students, building relationships with her students and families as she moved up to the next grade with them. The Greendale Historical Society has been chosen as the Greendale Chamber of Commerce's member of the year.
For years, the Greendale Historical Society has tried to preserve and foster appreciation for Greendale. On Feb. 12, it will be the Historical Society itself that will be appreciated. The Greendale Historical Society has been selected as the Greendale Chamber of Commerce’s member of the year, and will be recognized at the annual awards banquet next month. The Historical Society, which has 330 members, was founded in 1976 to collect, preserve and make available materials relating to Greendale’s history. The society holds quarterly meetings that are open to the public and feature a variety of informative presentations, and the society participates in all Village of Greendale activities and functions. Greendale Superintendent John Tharp will speak at Business Chamber event later this month. Tharp was appointed this past summer.
The Greendale Chamber of Commerce will hold an event where people can meet new Superintendent John Tharp. The event will be on Wednesday, October 24 at 7:30 a.m. at the Greendale School District Offices located at 6801 Southway. The district office is now located at Greendale High School. As you enter the parking lot, you will see signs directing you to the district office entrance. Tharp was appointed as Superintendent in August after longtime Superintendent William Hughes resigned.

County Executive Chris Abele spoke to chamber members on Wednesday about some fiscal happenings in Milwaukee County.
In April, in the midst of the recall campaigns, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele went to Opening Day at Miller Park, where he sat between Gov. Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, two men Abele says he gets along with. Walker quipped about the shirt Abele should have worn to the game: One with arrows pointing left and right, and proclaiming "I'm with stupid." Abele's joke warmed up the crowd at Wednesday’s Greendale Chamber of Commerce event, where he shared promising news about this year's county budget. Last year’s 2011 budget started with a $55 million deficit and about $1 billion in long-term liabilities. Things seem to be looking brighter for the county. From the ceiling to the floor Southridge Mall is getting a makeover. Mall Manager Mary Mokwa gives Greendale an update on the $52 million renovation.
Southridge Mall Manager Mary Mokwa said there is a lot of interest in the renovated mall at Thursday's Greendale Chamber of Commerce breakfast where she gave an update on the renovation. Not only did Mokwa give an update but she also gave some history on Southridge. Southridge opened in 1970 in Greendale. Over the years Southridge was a powerhouse as the largest mall in the state with five anchor stores. However, things started getting dim for the mall in the 2000s. "As time marched competition started to pull ahead," Mokwa said. "Mayfair renovated enhancing their tenant mix in 2005. Bayshore re-emerged as a lifestyle center in 2007. Brookfield Square remodeled and added restaurants in the stores in the outer parcels in 2008." Last year …
