Who Will Pick Up Greendale Recycling and Garbage?
The Village of Greendale is considering bringing the recycling curbside pick-up in-house, and Patch checks out the rumor that the garbage service might be privatized.
Blogger Jason Patzfahl wrote last week that he heard some Greendale officials want to get out of the garbage business, and instead contract with a private company. When Patch went to the village to see if that was true, we found something a little different. Instead of garbage pickup being on officials' minds right now, it's recycling. The Village of Greendale will soon review and likely renew the refuse and recycling contract. Currently, Greendale pays a company to collect recycling from the curb every two weeks. Significant changes are being considered for the 2013 year, including having village staff pick up recycling instead of contracting it out. Village staff told Patch this could potentially save money. We are lucky to have a dump in the Industrial loop where we can take recycling stuff. I think it would be a good idea for our own DPW workers to pick it up. It would probably be cheaper to have our own truck.   more ›
