Christmas Tree Disposal Instructions

DPW asks residents make trees accessible for pick up.

There are people who like to get rid of their Christmas Tree right after Dec. 25 and then there are people who like to hold on to their trees till after New Years. Then there are those few people who wait till the end of January to dispose of their Christmas tree. Whatever the case may be in your home, the Greendale Department of Public Works will be more than happy to help you out. Carl Tisonik, director of Public Works, says people usually throw out their trees mid-January, however, trees will still be picked up until late-January. Trees can be left out with the rest of the trash with the butt facing the street so that DPW can pick them up. Tisonik asks residents "to make sure to make the trees accessible for pick up."

New Road Salt Treatment Will Enhance Melting Capabilities

Geo Melt 55 will be added to road salt this season to strengthen the salt's melting abilities and provide safer roads.

As the snow begins to cover the streets of Greendale, ice becomes a prominent concern for residents. The Greendale Department of Public Works has announced that this year they will begin pre-treating the road salt with Geo Melt 55, a non-chloride liquid product that can improve the performance of road salt and its melting capabilities. An added benefit to this product is the reduction of the amount of chlorides being used by the department. Navigating the neighborhood becomes more difficult, and safety can be compromised – those walking the sidewalks can slip and fall, and cars can slide into other cars. The department responds to this issue every year by salting the roads. Road salt remains an effective combatant to icy roads throughout …
