A little more than two weeks after serving its first customer at its new Greenfield restaurant, Dr. Dawg celebrated its grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony May 3. City of Greenfield Mayor Michael Neitzke, Village of Greendale President John Hermes, the restaurant's ownership team, members of the Greenfield Chamber of Commerce and others participated in the opening and were treated to a free lunch. The restaurant has been under construction for nearly six months but is finally set to open in the former Hooters building in Greenfield.
On April 8, just after midnight, a witness called police to report a vehicle had sat through an entire cycle of lights without moving at 76th Street and West Layton Avenue. When confronted, the driver told a Greenfield police officer he was deep in thought wondering if Dr. Dawg was open, and missed the green light for traffic in his direction. Wonder no more, young man. Nearly six months after announcing his Chicago-style Italian beef and hot dog restaurant would replace Hooters, 7700 W. Layton Ave., the owner of Dr. Dawg is finally ready to put his paw print on the 76th Street shopping corridor. Owner David Ross hoped to be open by Feb. 1; now he's aiming for the beginning of March.
The wait will be a little bit longer than hoped for those anxious to sink their teeth into a tasty Italian beef sandwich or Chicago-style hot dog while not having to leave the 76th Street shopping corridor. Dr. Dawg owner David Ross told Greenfield Patch he’s aiming to open his specialty restaurant at the beginning of March. Ross initially hoped his second Dr. Dawg location would open in the building formerly occupied by Hooters, 7700 W. The new hot dog restaurant will open in the former Hooters restaurant in early 2013, owner David Ross said.
Most dogs like being outside. Even Dr. Dawg. Davis Ross, owner of the Chicago-style hot dog and Italian beef restaurant set to open soon in the former Hooters building, 7700 W. Layton Ave., received approval to build a fenced-in, uncovered patio on the south side of the building. Ross, who told Greenfield Patch he hopes to open the new restaurant by Feb. 1, got the OK from the City of Greenfield’s Common Council on Tuesday to build the patio between the sidewalk on 76th Street and the front of the building.
