The music department spreads holiday spirit through song.
Last night Greendale High School hosted their annual holiday concert featuring the GHS symphonic band, wind symphony, string orchestra and honors, handbell, and concert choirs. The symphonic band, led by band director Tom Reifenberg, opened the program with "A Jingle Bells Fantasy," "Star of Wonder," and "Hanukkah Dance." Greendale Junior Ruth Jensen, a clarinet player in the band, always has a good time at concert performances. "I love all the people in band so it makes it even more fun and showing our music to the audience [is fun]. It's just fun to play," she said. Winter concert brings joy and high-energy to families.
On Monday night kindergarten through fifth grade students from Canterbury Elementary performed their winter concert at Greendale High School's auditorium. Over 900 people attended the concert, with some parents standing in the aisles and doorways to hear the kids sing about wintery, holiday cheer. The first half of the concert featured fifth graders, fourth graders, kindergarteners and first graders, which was followed by the performances of second and third graders. After intermission, the school's orchestra, choir and band performed. As one first grade boy said, "That was so awesome! We were famous!" -- famous in the hearts of Canterbury Elementary families.
