Greendale Students, Educator Receive Herb Kohl Foundation Awards

The $1,000 awards are being made to teachers, their schools, and graduating high school students.

One Greendale student and two educators from the district will receive a 2013 Herb Kohl Foundation award. The $1,000 awards are being made to 100 teachers, their schools, and 187 graduating high school students throughout the state. The following Greendale student and teachers have been chosen: Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Excellence Scholars 2013 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation Fellows 2013 Excellence Scholarship recipients have demonstrated excellence in the academic arena and high motivation to achieve, have displayed a broad range of activity and leadership outside the academic setting, and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond. College Park Teacher Named Chamber's Educator of the Year

Colleen Korpal, who will be honored at the Greendale Chamber of Commerce's annual banquet next month, began teaching in Greendale in 2006.

When it came time for the Greendale Chamber of Commerce to select its Charlie Herman Educator of the Year winner, a College Park Elementary School teacher stood out among all the rest. The chamber has named Colleen Korpal the winner of this year's award and will honor her at the organization's annual dinner celebration next month. The Greendale School District hired Korpal in 2006 to teach first grade at College Park. Four years later, Korpal became part of a team of teachers that began looping with first and second grade students, building relationships with her students and families as she moved up to the next grade with them.
