Here's a look at what's new on the local food, restaurant and bar scene. Last week, we told you that plans for a Chick-fil-A in Greendale have been put on the back burner, but that things are full speed ahead for another new restaurant in that village. Construction is under way for the Panther Pub & Eatery, which will be located on Broad Street in downtown Greendale. Here's a look at what's new new on the local food scene. If you've been waiting for a Chick-fil-A restaurant to open up in the Milwaukee area, you're going to have to wait until at least next year, the company says. Plans for a Chick-fil-A were approved by Greendale officials in 2012 and the chain was supposed to open a new store on South 76th Street near Southridge this summer. But a company official now says the store won't open until sometime in 2014. That leaves just one Chick-fil-A in Wisconsin — at Regency Mall in Racine. Read more on Greendale…

The restaurant was initially believed to be headed to 76th Street this summer. But that's not the case, the company now says.
It appears Chick-fil-A, the national chicken restaurant chain, is still coming to Greendale. Just not as soon as previously expected. Village officials approved the building of a 4,779-square-foot Chick-fil-A for one of the Walmart outlots back in October 2012. At that time, Chick-fil-A representatives indicated the 109-seat restaurant with a drive-through, outdoor seating and indoor playground would be built by July or August on South 76th Street, just across the street from Southridge Mall. Brenda Morrow, with the Atlanta-based restaurant’s public relations department, however, said no Greendale restaurant plans are in the works this year. “Too soon to communicate anything other than we plan to come to Greendale in 2014,” Morrow said in …

The Greendale Planning Commission approved an application to construct a U.S. Cellular store in one of Walmart's outlots. The Commission unanimously recommended approval on Wednesday night. The U.S. Cellular store would be constructed next to the summer upcoming restaurant Chick-Fil-A in front of Walmart on 76th Street. The Greendale Village Board will consider the application for approval on Tuesday.

Last year there were many exciting announcements coming out of Greendale. Many of those included store openings around the Southridge area and Village Center. Chick-Fil-A, Walmart, Longhorn Steakhouse, Buca di Beppo and Designer Shoe Warehouse (DSW) are all opening on 76th Street this year. An athletics-themed Panther Pub and Eatery will be opening in the Village Center by summer as well. Old Navy, LOFT and Chico's will be opening in Southridge Mall.

The Southridge Mall renovation is attracting new stores inside and outside the mall, which includes restaurant Longhorn Steakhouse, Panda Express and Chick-a-Fil.
Ann Taylor Loft and Justice might open at Southridge Mall, according to paperwork from the Village of Greendale. The Milwaukee Business Journal also reported that Body Central is among the new stores opening inside the mall. Southridge Manager Mary Mokwa said she was not able to yet confirm the tenants. The $52 million renovation has drawn a number of new tenants both inside and outside the mall, most notably the recent openings of Macy’s and H&M. Tilly’s, Teavana, Bachrach, Crazy 8, and Journeys Kidz will also open in the mall this fall.
