Advanced Disposal Wins Greendale Recycling Contract
Village can take over recycling in the second year of the contract, which saves the community $100,000.
The Greendale Village Board gave unanimous approval Tuesday to hire Advanced Disposal Solid Waste to handle the village's recycling. Village Manager Todd Michaels said Advanced, formally known as Veolia ES Solid Waste Midwest, will take over the contract from 2013 to 2017 and will save the community $100,000. The contract also gives the village the opportunity to take over the recycling portion of the contract starting in the second year if it so chooses. “This contract is the same service we’re getting now, but it costs us $100,000 less,” Trustee James Birmingham said. I would like to salute the ENTIRE board for keeping garbage collection in-house and for taking into consideration the possibility of doing our own recycling in Greendale by signing the new contract. According to the EPA 83% of all household waste should either be recycled or composted.
