PantherHawks Shine at State Swim Meet

With one relay taking second and a handful of other top-10 swims, the Greendale-Greenfield co-op had a solid day at the WIAA State Swimming and Diving Championships.

Sophomore Rick Perez and junior Ross Rybakowicz put turned in shining performances in the high school swimming season finale Saturday. The tandem combined for four top-nine individual swims at the WIAA State Swimming and Diving Championship in Madison, and also powered the Greendale-Greenfield PantherHawks to a pair of top relay finishes, including a sparkling showing in the 200-yard medley relay. In that race, Perez and Rybakowicz teamed with Andrew Staszak and Adam Fleischhacker for second in 1 minute, 35.6 seconds, just off the pace set by Madison Memorial’s 1:35.17. Perez also swam third in the 100 backstroke in 50.84, behind only Homestead junior Nicholas Petersen’s state record-breaking time of 49.34 and West Bend senior Matt McHugh’…

PantherHawks Set for State Swim Meet After Impressive Sectional Haul

The Greenfield-Greendale co-op dominated its own sectional Saturday and will have state competitors in all 12 events next weekend.

The Greendale/Greenfield boys swim team’s annual pilgrimage to the UW-Natatorium for the WIAA Division 1 State Swimming and Diving Championships will once again take place this weekend. But this time the PantherHawks might have outdone themselves. The co-op won seven of 12 events to easily win its own sectional Saturday at Greenfield High School, but perhaps even more impressive is that the PantherHawks qualified for state in every event. Event winners automatically qualified for the state meet, as did the 18 best non-winning sectional efforts statewide. Greendale/Greenfield sophomore Rick Perez was among those who took the former route multiple times. Perez won the 200-yard individual medley in 1 minute, 56.44 seconds, the fourth-best …

Seven Panthers Advance to Wrestling Sectional

Thomas Welch, the Greendale/St. Thomas More 113-pounder, finished second at Saturday's regional and will compete in the WIAA sectional with six of his teammates Feb. 16.

Two Greendale/St. Thomas More wrestlers grappled for the championship at a WIAA regional tournament at Greenfield and Saturday, and seven of the co-op’s competitors survived to see next weekend’s sectional. Thomas Welch, Greendale/St. Thomas More’s 113-pounder, scored quarterfinal and semifinal pins before getting pinned himself by Muskego’s Austin Quartullo in 3 minutes, 54 seconds, in the championship match. Welch bounced back, however, to beat Waterford’s Dan McGilvary, 6-2, in the second-place bout. The top four placewinners at each weight class advanced to the WIAA sectional, to be held at Waukesha West at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16. Greendale/St. Thomas More’s Jared Rosen (29-6) at 106, Sam Walton (33-8) at 145 and Dustin Donald (…

Which Super Bowl 2013 Ad Was Your Favorite?

Car makers were the primary producer of new ads on Super Bowl XLVII, but who had the best? Vote in our poll and talk about it in the comments.

The Super Bowl long ago stopped being just a football game. Creative advertisements that debut during the broadcast are as much of a draw as the contest itself, and Super Bowl XLVII was no different This year, Mercedez-Benz generated some controversy with a “teaser” that circulated online featuring model Kate Upton, but the actual ad was far different, featuring Usher, among others. Toyota employed Kaley Cuoco, star of “Big Bang Theory.” Auto makers Audi, Volkswagen and Hyundai also jumped in the fray, along with Pepsi, Allstate and other big names. Which was your favorite from this year’s game? Vote in our poll or add your own favorite in the comments, or by adding a link.
