With one relay taking second and a handful of other top-10 swims, the Greendale-Greenfield co-op had a solid day at the WIAA State Swimming and Diving Championships.
Sophomore Rick Perez and junior Ross Rybakowicz put turned in shining performances in the high school swimming season finale Saturday. The tandem combined for four top-nine individual swims at the WIAA State Swimming and Diving Championship in Madison, and also powered the Greendale-Greenfield PantherHawks to a pair of top relay finishes, including a sparkling showing in the 200-yard medley relay. In that race, Perez and Rybakowicz teamed with Andrew Staszak and Adam Fleischhacker for second in 1 minute, 35.6 seconds, just off the pace set by Madison Memorial’s 1:35.17. Perez also swam third in the 100 backstroke in 50.84, behind only Homestead junior Nicholas Petersen’s state record-breaking time of 49.34 and West Bend senior Matt McHugh’…

The Greendale Panthers Athletic Booster Club will be hosting its Casino Night fundraiser from 7-11:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Tuckaway Country Club, 6901 W. Drexel Ave. Proceeds from the event help support 22 Greendale High School organized sports teams. Over the past six years, the GPABC has contributed more than $350,000 for uniforms, replay camera, a scoreboard, field turf, track, softball and baseball field improvements, weight room equipment, as well as offset costs for the Greendale School District. The Greendale High School cheer team competed in the National High School Cheerleading Championship in Orlando, joining more than 450 teams at the two day event Feb. 9-10. Greendale finished fourth in the Super Large Varsity division, which is a division for teams with 20 to 30 members. Teams performed skills of stunting, tumbling, jumping, pyramids, dance and crowd-leading in a choreographed 2.5-minute routine. The Greendale girls made it through Saturday's preliminaries in seventh before elevating to fourth in the finals. The Greenfield-Greendale co-op dominated its own sectional Saturday and will have state competitors in all 12 events next weekend.
The Greendale/Greenfield boys swim team’s annual pilgrimage to the UW-Natatorium for the WIAA Division 1 State Swimming and Diving Championships will once again take place this weekend. But this time the PantherHawks might have outdone themselves. The co-op won seven of 12 events to easily win its own sectional Saturday at Greenfield High School, but perhaps even more impressive is that the PantherHawks qualified for state in every event. Event winners automatically qualified for the state meet, as did the 18 best non-winning sectional efforts statewide. The WIAA swimming and wrestling postseason kicks off Saturday, and Greenfield High School will be at the center of attention. The school will host both the WIAA Division 1 swimming sectional meet and a D1 regional wrestling tournament. The swimming meet will be a strong test for the Greenfield-Greendale co-op boys unit, which despite winning eight of 12 events took second at the 10-team Woodland Conference meet Feb. 2, finishing behind the deeper Shorewood Greyhounds. PantherHawk winners were: The 11-team sectional is at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9. Diving is at 6 p.m. Friday, also at Greenfield High School.
