For Republican lieutenant governor, the biggest battle isn't in the state Capitol - it's dealing with the every day challenges that come with being a parent.
About this sponsorship: In honor of the 60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary’s historic ascent of Mount Everest, Patch and Grape-Nuts are teaming up to highlight those who inspire people around them to climb their own mountains. Rebecca Kleefisch is the highest ranking woman in Wisconsin politics today, having been elected twice to the office of lieutenant governor. She is Gov. Scott Walker's point person business creation in the state and is a sought after speaker on conservative values. She has also battled colon cancer during her first run for office and is an advocate for early screenings, like the one that made her fight against the disease easier to overcome. But it is not the political campaign or the fight over cancer that …
Two local veterans groups are planning a new Greendale memorial and are eying school district property at Broad Street and Southway.
Two local veterans groups are planning a new memorial honoring Greendale veterans. Members of the American Legion Post 416 and VFW Post 10519 are eying school district land on the northeast corner of Broad Street and Southway. The groups have begun discussions with the school district and village on the project, American Legion Post Commander Tim Baranzyk said during a School Board meeting Monday. He said he was pleased with initial conversations with Superintendent John Tharp and Village President John Hermes. Plans, while still preliminary, include a kiosk that would list veterans from Greendale and allow people to view the history of each soldier, Baranzyk said. The American Legion and VFW are currently working to set up a nonprofit …

Freedom to be who you are and fulfilling work tend to earn companies on the top lists of best places to work, according to the Harvard Business Review.
The following story was provided by AOLJobs.com By Claire Gordon What is the perfect place to work? An office where every employee gets an annual 10 percent raise? And nobody ever gets fired? And the CEO knows everyone's name? And there are free massages and volleyball courts and barrels of candy apples? None of the above. Rob Goffee of London Business School and Gareth Jones of IE Business School have spent three years asking hundreds of executives this exact question. Six qualities stood out, they found, which they revealed in this month's Harvard Business Review. And ultimately they seem to boil down to a single nugget: Make employees feel like they're not just mindless slaves of shareholder value. 1. Let You Do You The best company …

Did Gov. Scott Walker break a campaign promise when he vowed to keep pork out of the state budget?
Some campaign promises build in a bit of wiggle room. The one made by candidate for governor Scott Walker to “Strip policy and pork projects from the state budget” did not. This unequivocal pledge, posted on Walker’s campaign website, committed the candidate to eschewing both parties’ longstanding practice of using the budget to make policy changes and reward special interests. In April 2011, less than four months into Walker’s term, the truth-testers at PolitiFact Wisconsin branded this a broken promise. It noted that the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau had identified dozens of non-fiscal items in the governor’s budget repair bills and first biennial budget. Walker’s latest executive budget, for 2013-15, included what the Fiscal …

From moms that rock the volunteer scene to moms who always know the right thing to say, dozens of entries into Patch's "Why My Mom is Best" contest warmed our hearts and made us smile. But amid all the spectacular stories was a daughter's touching tale about her mother's battle with cancer while helping a quadriplegic husband with leukemia that stole our hearts. "My mom, Lynn, deserves an escape," Allison Feix wrote about her mother, Lynn Molter. "She's raised two kids and works as a medical technologist, while being the care taker for my father, who has leukemia and has been a quadriplegic for the past twenty seven years. She is a recent breast cancer survivor, who puts the needs of her loved ones before her own. Some time away would be …
