Two local veterans groups are planning a new Greendale memorial and are eying school district property at Broad Street and Southway.
Two local veterans groups are planning a new memorial honoring Greendale veterans. Members of the American Legion Post 416 and VFW Post 10519 are eying school district land on the northeast corner of Broad Street and Southway. The groups have begun discussions with the school district and village on the project, American Legion Post Commander Tim Baranzyk said during a School Board meeting Monday. He said he was pleased with initial conversations with Superintendent John Tharp and Village President John Hermes. Plans, while still preliminary, include a kiosk that would list veterans from Greendale and allow people to view the history of each soldier, Baranzyk said. A week after winning the Woodland Conference title, Greendale sophomore Abby Jankowski added a regional crown to her resume. Jankowski won the shot put with a throw of 37 feet, 4 inches in a WIAA regional meet at South Milwaukee on Monday. Some campaign promises build in a bit of wiggle room. The one made by candidate for governor Scott Walker to “Strip policy and pork projects from the state budget” did not. This unequivocal pledge, posted on Walker’s campaign website, committed the candidate to eschewing both parties’ longstanding practice of using the budget to make policy changes and reward special interests. In April 2011, less than four months into Walker’s term, the truth-testers at PolitiFact Wisconsin branded this a broken promise. It noted that the nonpartisan Legislative Fiscal Bureau had identified dozens of non-fiscal items in the governor’s budget repair bills and first biennial budget. A woman fighting with security was arrested, while paramedics from three communities assisted in treating people exposed to the pepper spray.
Three people were treated after a woman discharged pepper spray at Southridge Mall about 1:55 p.m. May 11, according to the Greendale Police Department call sheet. The woman was resisting security in the food court near Rocky Rococo and was taken into custody for retail theft, police said. Paramedics from Greendale, Greenfield and Hales Corners arrived at the scene to treat people exposed to the pepper spray, including one person with asthma and heart history and a pregnant woman with abdominal pain.
This week's police reports also include two drunken driving arrests and a theft of cash and jewelry from an apartment.
These incidents are part of the Greendale Police Department's weekly call sheet from May 10-17. A driver was cited for failing to yield after a two-vehicle accident at Grange Avenue and Root River Parkway about 4:45 p.m. May 11. No one was injured. If you have an elementary or middle school student and you want them to attend summer school, you'll need to get the registration forms turned in by Friday.
If you are thinking of sending your children to summer school in the Greendale School District, you'll need to get those registration forms in by Friday. Two sessions will be held, one from 8 to 9:55 a.m. and the other from 10 to 11:55 a.m. from July 8 through Aug. 2. A few 50-minute sessions will also be held. The registration forms need to be turned in at the school's main office. Course selections are for the grade level entering in Fall 2013.
