Can Village Alleviate Concerns About The Rock's Lights, Noise?

An eventful planning commission meeting kicks off the upcoming week Tuesday.

The fun and games are over and it’s time to get back to business.

Fresh off a five-day celebration of Village Days and Greendale’s 75th anniversary, village officials are back at it with a loaded Planning Commission meeting Tuesday at Village Hall.

Topping the list is a decision to work with The Rock Sports Complex, a facility that sits on 76th Street in both Franklin and Greendale, and one that has village residents concerned with the noise and lights.

Village President John Hermes vowed last month Greendale would work through residents’ issues as The Rock owners seek special use permits for snow boarding, snow tubing, gravity biking and more to take place on Greendale land.

The Planning Commission will also take a closer look at Goodwill Industries' desire to move its corporate headquarters into the Reader’s Digest building on 60th Street, and consider a request from the Greendale Historical Society to improve the exterior of the Hose Tower with an outdoor patio and a pathway connecting it to downtown.

One concern some have is building a patio on the west side of the Hose Tower, like the historical society hopes to do, would decrease or eliminate the future ability to put a road there for Middle School student drop-off and pick-up.
