Greendale's Fourth of July Celebration Not Limited to One Day

While the parade and fireworks are on Thursday, July 4, some activities start the day before or last until the day after.

In a final tune-up of sorts for the much-anticipated 75th anniversary bash, the Village of Greendale has plenty of fun for everyone planned for the week of our country’s birthday.

The Fourth of July celebration starts with the public reading of the Declaration of Independence at the flagpole at Village Hall at 9 a.m.

At 10 a.m., the annual parade begins at Grange and Northway near Southridge Mall. It goes from Northway to Broad Street and ends at Greendale High School.

The parade also includes the children’s parade, where children are encouraged to ride decorated bicycles, tricycles and wagons (no motorized vehicles). Line-up for the children’s parade is scheduled for 9:45 a.m. at St. Thomas of Canterbury Church.

An ice cream giveaway at Jaycee Park, sponsored by the Greendale Public Celebrations Committee, immediately follows the parade.

At 7 p.m., the Greendale Village Concert Band will perform a patriotic concert in the Greendale Gazebo.

Fireworks are slated for approximately 9:15 p.m.

The fun isn’t limited to one day, however.

The American Legion Post 416 corn roast is Wednesday, July 3, from 4-9 p.m. and Thursday, July 4, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the corner of Broad Street and Schoolway in Gazebo Park. There you can get corn, root beer floats, nachos, ice tea, lemonade, soda and bottled water on both days and roasted chicken and baked potatoes on Thursday.

In addition, the Greendale Lions Club will be operating a food and beer garden at Gazebo Park on Wednesday, from 4-10 p.m., Thursday from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday, July 5, from 4-10 p.m.

Those with an appetite can grab hamburgers, brats, mozzarella sticks, Italian sausages, ice cream sandwiches, sour cream and chive fries, beer, wine coolers and much more.

Tell us: What are you looking forward to the most come the Fourth of July?
