Red-Hot Panthers Open Woodland Season Against Undefeated Popes

The teams meet at Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m. Friday. Meanwhile, the Martin Luther Spartans will try to remain unbeaten Saturday.

One week after an impressive 37-13 nonconference win over neighboring rival Franklin, the undefeated Greendale Panthers football team open the Woodland Conference West Division season on Friday.

The Panthers (2-0) will take on Pius (2-0) at Wisconsin Lutheran College at 7 p.m.

The Popes have a pair of nearly identical victories so far, with a 24-13 win over Kenosha St. Joseph and a 25-13 win against Greenfield.

Running back Shannon Nunnery is off to a strong start with 314 rushing yards and five touchdowns.

Greendale’s Josh Ringelberg already has 10 passing touchdowns (and one rushing), including four TD throws each to Mitchell Brees and Cody Kmetz.

On Saturday, the Martin Luther Spartans (2-0) are also looking to maintain an unblemished record when they open the Metro Classic Conference season against Racine St. Catherine’s (1-1) at Horlick Field at 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Spartans came from behind to beat Kettle Moraine Lutheran, 14-13, last Friday, when Michael Shaw rushed from 3 yards out with about 9 minutes remaining.

Shaw has 171 yards and four TDs on the ground so far this season.
