Panthers to Finish Division Season at Wauwatosa West on Friday

Meanwhile, the Martin Luther Spartans (4-2, 2-2) are fighting to keep their WIAA postseason berth hopes alive.

Likely the last thing Wauwatosa West football coaches and players remember about the 2012 season is when the Greendale Panthers came to their field and handed them a 41-16 first-round WIAA playoff trouncing, abruptly ending what had been the Trojans’ best season in years.

Whether or not those memories are enough to carry the Trojans in a rematch with the Panthers remains to be seen, but Wauwatosa West (3-3, 1-3) will get its chance when it hosts undefeated Greendale (6-0, 4-0) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Running back Demaris Purifoy is the Trojans’ top offensive weapon with 741 rushing yards and seven touchdowns to his credit so far.

Following Friday’s rematch with the Trojans, the Panthers and the other Woodland Conference West Division teams will play consecutive crossover games with Woodland East foes Oct. 11 and Oct. 18.
