Greendale's Chelsey Heiden, Abby Jankowski Earn State Track and Field Berths

Both athletes are returning to the state meet, held May 31 and June 1 in La Crosse, for the second straight year.

Two Greendale Panthers will be making return trips to next weekend’s WIAA State Track and Field Meet.

Senior Chelsey Heiden will be finishing her prep career on the state’s grandest stage, the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s Veterans Memorial Stadium, after she took second in the 3,200-meter run at the Wisconsin Lutheran Sectional on Thursday.

Heiden’s time of 11 minutes, 23.35 seconds was behind only Racine Horlick senior Ally Anich’s 11:15.16.

The top three placewinners in each event automatically qualified for the state meet.

Jankowski was also fifth in the shot put.

The state meet is May 31 and June 1. At last year’s state meet, Jankowski was 17th in the discus and Heiden was 18th in the 3,200.

In addition to the top three finishers in each event, the state’s top-eight non-automatic qualifiers also earn state nods. Greendale Patch will update this story if any Panthers are among the additional qualifiers.
