Work to Begin Soon on New Classrooms at Highland View

The Greendale School District hopes to have new classroom space ready for the start of school year.

There aren't any new classrooms yet at Highland View Elementary School.

That's not what some anxious Greendale parents are hoping to see when they visit Highland View Elementary School this week for the annual Forms & Fees Day.

Wednesday, August 3, is the day families will register their children for school if they have not already done so, fill out all the necessary forms and pay the fees for the upcoming school year.

The school is scheduled to get two new classrooms for the upcoming school year as a solution to The new rooms would come from converting the existing computer lab and part of the library into classroom space.

Erin Green, Director of Business Services for the Greendale school district, told administrators and board members at Monday's school board meeting that a contractor has been selected for the work. J.P. Cullen & Sons, Inc. of Janesville has been working with the district on architectural plans for the project.

Green said that although the actual work has not yet started, adminstrators are hoping it will be done by the first day of school on September 1. 

Green said the project will be paid for out of the district's current facilities budget. She did not have a firm cost for the project, but estimates it will be in the $200K range.

but that plan has been tabled. The plan had called for moving the Park & Rec offices to Greendale High School, but there were concerns over the cost of a temporary relocation versus waiting to find a new permanent home for both the Park & Rec and the district offices.

School Board President Tom Slota voiced his approval, saying, "I'm glad to see we're making do for now with what we have."
