What Do Greendale Graduates Do After High School?

State data provides insight into trends at the district serving Greendale students.

With school over for the year, Patch was curious… Exactly what do Greendale graduates do after graduation? The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has an incredible amount of searchable data on its website.

So we took a look, and here’s what we found:

The percent of Greendale graduates headed to college plummeted in 2010. That year, 47 percent of the 218 graduates reported they were headed to a four-year college, down from 75 percent in 2009 and 82 percent in 2008. The next lowest percent of college-bound graduates was 68 percent, from 1999.

At the same time, the percent of students heading to a vocational or technical school skyrocketed, going from 22 percent in 2009 to 48 percent in 2010. The prior high for vocational/technical colleges had been 26 percent, from 2004.

Greendale has also seen a recent resurgence in graduates entering the military. 5 percent of 2010 graduates reported they were joining the military, the highest percentage since 2003, when 7 percent of graduates said that was where they were headed.
