School Board Waits to Approve Additional Elementary Open Seats

The Greendale School Board did approve one seat in the 12th grade.

The Greendale School Board approved one open enrollment seat in the 12th grade last night, however, the board will wait to approve additional seats in the elementary level.

By state law the deadline to approve open enrollment seats for the 2011-2012 school year is the third week of August.

Currently the board opened up the four seats at 5th grade and two seats at 6th grade, which have all been accepted. Three of the new 5th grade students will attend Highland View School and one will attend College Park School.

Based on recommendation from school district staff the board will wait till August to open any additional seats in the elementary level so that the board can use the most current resident enrollment numbers available prior to the deadline to open an appropriate number of additional seats.

Greendale school administration has decreased the number of seats for the upcoming school year.

In a memo to the board Superintendent William Hugues says, "Consideration can be given to additional elementary and middle level seats while being mindful of long-range implications for additional sections as well as the revenue provided in this program in an increasingly tight and difficult economic budget for Greendale Schools."
