Fresh off their state championship win, the Greendale Junior Panther Cheerleaders will be participating in their final competition of the season this weekend.
The Panther Classic will take place Saturday, January 28 in the gymnasium, with doors opening at 9:30 a.m. and the actual competition running from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is open to the public and the cost is $5.00/person.
Twenty-six cheer teams will be competing at the event. Because Greendale is hosting the competition, they will not compete, but will instead perform their routines as an exhibition.
The Junior Panthers competition teams consist of a combined seventh and eighth grade team with 22 members and and a combined fifth and sixth grade team with 17 members. The older girls competed in the WACPC Wisconsin State Cheerleading Competition in Sheboygan last weekend and won first place in their division. They also took home the second place overall trophy, beating out several JV squads. The team has participated in three other competitions this season, winning first place at all of them.
The Junior Panther program is open to all students who attend Greendale schools including , in grades 5-8. Each grade level has its own sideline cheer team which performs at Greendale Youth Football games in the fall and the optional combined competition teams, whose season runs from November until the end of January.
There are NO try-outs for any of the teams.
Although run independently, the Junior Panther program is assisted by GHS cheerleaders, and acts as a feeder program to the high school teams. The Junior Panthers, now in its third year, is the replacement for the former 'Wildcats' cheer program run by the Greendale Park & Rec Department.
