Slight Decrease in ACT Average Scores of Greendale Students

Greendale still scored higher than the state average.

saw a slight 0.5 decrease in composite ACT scores from last year's average scores of 24.0 to 23.5, according to the national data that was recently released. Despite the decrease students exceeded the state average of 22.2.

There was a 12% increase in the number of students taking the test over the prior year, according to the school district website. The school district also said that Greendale saw a dip in four subscore catergories, in particularly in the area of reading from 23.9 to 23.

The ACT is a curriculum-based achievement exam designed to measure the academic skills taught in schools and deemed important for success in first-year college courses. All four-year colleges and universities in the United States accept ACT scores as part of prospective students’ academic portfolio.

In the district website Steve Lodes, principal of Greendale High School, said that the increase of students taking the ACT shows that more students are interested in attending post-secondary institutions after graduation. The district also has put in place EXPLORE and PLAN tests that help prepare freshmen and sophomores for the ACTs.
