Greendale Schools Staff Must Report Child Abuse

Greendale School Board members approved a resolution Monday night that brought the district's child abuse reporting policy in line with state law.

All employees of the Greendale School District are now required to report any signs of suspected child abuse in children.

The Greendale School Board passed a policy Tuesday requiring all employees of the district to report signs of child abuse. If they don't, they could face discipline or termination from the school district. The change was necessary given a new state law requiring all school district employees in Wisconsin to report child abuse.

In addition to the reporting requirement, the law also states district employees must receive training from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction on the topic of spotting child abuse within six months of being hired. The employees are required to continue the training at least every five years thereafter.Β Β
