School Board Stresses Importance of Student and Teacher Relationships in Amidst 'Chaos'

Superintendent William Hughes discusses Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill.

Superintendent William Hughes says that there is still more to come from Madison.

"The issues are not going to get fought out in Greendale, Wisconsin," he said on Monday night's school board meeting. "It is going to be fought out in Madison."

Hughes believes that there will be a lot of negotiations in Madison in regards to Gov. Scott Walker's budget repair bill and advised the board to let the dust settle before taking sides.

"Don’t side on the issue," Hughes said. "There’s no point. They are already polarized. What’s really important is the relationship with the teachers and not getting caught up with the rhetoric of the unions."

School board vice president Joe Crappito shared the similar sentiments.

"Being that Greendale is a high performance district, teachers need to be commended on keeping focus on the students with everything that’s going on, he said."
