Greendale Students Take to the Stage for Hunger

Greendale students from the high school and middle school performed at GHS Friday night in a concert that benefited the Hunger Task Force.

Following up on a benefit concert that raised approximately $1,500 for Haiti last year, a group of Greendale students held another benefit concert, Music to Feed the Hungry, on Friday at to raise money for a local cause.

"This year we wanted a more local focus," said GHS freshman and co-organizer Josh Bartelme, who was part of the six-student steering committee that organized the event that benefited the Hunger Task Force.

"There was a lot of planning involved, but it's for a really great cause," said Bartelme.

Planning for the event began in January with weekly meetings and auditions to perform. After turning away some interested performers, the concert featured 16 different acts that were made up of students from the high school and middle school.

"There was so much work, but I think it turned out great," said GHS freshman and co-organizer Kirstan Brodie.

GHS Dean of Students Katie Petersen oversaw the planning of the event, but the fundraiser was mainly the product of approximately 12 students who took the initiative to plan for, promote and put on the event.

"The stars of Greendale really shown brightly today," said GHS freshman and co-organizer Mark Fuller.
