Greendale Students Going to Costa Rica

Language students at Greendale High School get approval for field trip.

Approximately twelve Spanish-language students and two teachers From Greendale High School will be going on a ten-day field trip to Costa Rica, located in Central America, this coming spring.

The Greendale School Board approved the trip at its November 7 meeting.

GHS Spanish teachers Amy Meissner and Natalie Schmidt requested approval for the trip to take place in April of 2012. In a letter to the board, they stated they are confident the trip will provide an invaluable experience for the students involved.

Superintendent Bill Hughes voiced his support, saying there have been a number of student field trips out of the country that have offered exceptional experiences to GHS students. 

The cost of the trip is estimated to be $2,331 per person and includes airfare, ground transportation, meals, hotels, sightseeing and the services of a tour director. Families will be given opportunities to fundraise to help pay for the cost of the trip.

No school funds are being used to fund the field trip.

The travel itinerary includes a visit to a volcano, kayaking, a rain forest canopy adventure, a visit to a local school to have a cultural exchange with Costa Rican children and tours of a national park and a biological reserve, as well as a possible white-water rafting excursion.

The trip is being coordinated through EF (Education First) Tours, the company that has planned GHS field trips to France and Spain in the past.
