Greendale Anti-bullying Group To Show "Bully"

The group Greendale Against Bullying is rallying the community together to come see their first event, which features Lee Hirsch's documentary.

UPDATE: Organizers say that Gilbert Brown, who played for the Green Bay Packers, will also be at the event.

ORIGINAL STORY: Over 4,200 homes in Greendale received a flier from a group called Greendale Against Bullying, which promotes their upcoming free movie event.

And the 52 volunteers still have hundreds of fliers to pass out.

The group hopes to at least get 400 people to see "Bully," an award-winning documentary by Lee Hirsch, at 7 p.m. March 20 at Greendale High School, in the auditorium.

James Dean, one of the group organizers, said that watching Hirsch's film brought tears to his eyes.

"It's not getting better," Dean said. "Millions of dollars are being spent to combat bullying, but it just doesn't seem to being having an effect on these kids. But some of the strongest kids I've seen are the ones who are being bullied. They are the ones who have the most courage."

Dean explained that several students from the Greendale School District have volunteered to be student ambassadors.

"These are the kids who have stepped up and said, 'We have your back,'" Dean said.
