Community Engagement Initiative Gaining Steam

A kickoff event for the Forward Thinking initiative is Aug. 22, at the concert in the park at the Boerner Botanical Gardens.

The Forward Thinking initiative, an effort aimed at strengthening the relationships between the community, schools and municipalities is, well, moving forward.

The initiative, built largely around community interactions, where through public conversations, the Forward Thinking leadership team can get a feel as to how people feel about their schools, what they love and what they’d like to change, was started by Whitnall School Board member LuAnn Bird around the start of the year.

Since then, Bird has been leading informational meetings for key figures in the Greendale, Greenfield and Whitnall school districts, the City of Greenfield, and the villages of Greendale and Hales Corners.

It’s the same effort Bird previously led with great success in Montgomery, Ala., and Oshkosh. At a Greenfield School Board meeting July 22, she said the point of the engagement efforts is establishing how districts can work together with their communities to make things better for all involved.

The effort has a new website and is planning a kickoff event at the Boerner Botanical Gardens concert in the park at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22.

“After that, we’ll have community meetings and start collecting feedback,” Bird told Patch on Wednesday.
