School Board Approves Payments to Parent Transportation Contracts

District pays fees to parents to transport students to private schools .

The Greendale school board approved a routine payment on Monday night of $7,487 to parents that transport resident students to private schools.

By law public school districts are required to transport resident students to private schools that they are enrolled in. Rather than to bus groups to their private schools, the district pays eligible parents a fee to transport their own children.

The school board and the administration has advocated legislation to consolidate parent contracts to one contract per family rather than per child within a family, according to a memo from the Superintendent Bill Hugues. This is currently pending in legislation.
