Baseball Field Renovation Plans Moving Forward

Greendale school officials are entering the design phase of renovations to the Brinkman baseball field.

The village and school district worked out issues related to relocating a water main, put in when the village was founded in 1938, that lies underneath the field, Director of Building and Grounds Brian Koffarnus said.

That allows designing to begin, though issues with storm water and sanitary sewer still need to be resolved, he told the school board last week.

The field will be unusable for the 2013 season. The baseball team is not playing any home games and will practice at the community center, Koffarnus said.

The team will return to Brinkman Field in the 2014 season. By then, the stadium will have a turf infield and natural grass outfield, Koffarnus said.

According to a report to school board members, the field will also sport a new outfield fence with updated home run distances, to allow the field to host sectionals; and an orientation in the east-to-northeastern direction, as recommended by most baseball organizations.

The renovations were made possible thanks to the . The School Board matched that amount, and the Panthers Home Run Club said it would raise $125,000.
