3 Candidates File for School Board Positions

Deadline to file papers is Wednesday, Jan. 2 at 5 p.m.

Three candidates have filed papers to be on the ballot for three positions on the Greendale School Board this spring.

Incumbent Thomas Slota, board appointee Melanie Kuzmanovic and recent state assembly candidate Kathleen Weid Vincent have filed papers with the school district indicating their candidacies.

The other school board member up for election this year, Victoria McCormick, has not yet filed papers for the spring election; however, she also did not file papers of indicating she would not be running. The notification of non-candidacy was due Dec. 21.

The five-member Greendale School Board will have three open positions on the spring 2013 ballot.

The top two vote getters will serve three-year terms. The candidate coming in third will serve one year, filling the remainder of Jim Schutte’s term on the board, which is due to expire in 2014. Kuzmanovic was appointed to fill Schutte’s position this summer.

To be on the ballot, all candidates must submit the required Declaration of Candidacy and file their Campaign Registration Statement to the district office by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2.

The spring election will be held on Tuesday, April 2. If a primary is necessary, it will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 19.

A new candidate is in the race. With the issues in the public schools, more would be nice. How many people running does it take for a run off election?

Plenty of time left to get a few more candidates from the people who are displeased with Greendale Public Schools. Some of the current members have been on the board longer than the average age of the teachers in the classrooms

True statement Jared Blake, but our schools also far surpass those of other districts. Have you recently walked through any of our schools? Greendale's school board has a priority, and that's always been the students of this district.

Dear Greendale Citizen The schools are good in Greendale. They are good, but they do not far surpass other districts. Franklin is better now in many areas and look at districts around Milwaukee. Be fair in your statements or you will not be taken seriously. Greendale's school board priority is keeping things as they have been not offending or making the district better. Parents know there is a problem here. I am voting for the new candidate Weid and with Mel so there is a new view in the district.

Weid-Vincent has a good heart and will work hard for the best interests of the students.

Tip for Greendale Patch. Watch for more candidates to throw in to change things for the better in Greendale. There is a business and village leader who told us yesterday they are running. The school district has a board that needs to stand up and say we made a mistake with the new administrator - before it has a real problem - the decline of the Greendale School District. If they don't fix the problem, they are the problem and that can be fixed in April. Vote Weid-Vincent, Kuzmanovic and... McCormick is having second thoughts, not getting the papers in till the last minute.

I'd prefer candidates that actually hold a job; ideally outside of public education.
