The Panthers Are Ready To Go!

Things look positive as the Greendale Panthers football team concluded their pre-season practices with their annual quad-team scrimmage in Kenosha. They are now ready for the 2013 season.

The Greendale Panthers have just finished a quad-team scrimmage down at Kenosha Tremper and the results were positive.  Attending this scrimmage were Brookfield East, Milwaukee Riverside, and of course Kenosha Tremper.
Greendale first faced Brookfield who is the team that has bumped them from the playoffs the last 2 years.  They had some kinks early on defense stopping the run but it was just a matter of time before the engine warmed up.  They held East to only one touchdown in their offensive series.  On offense, Greendale's starters had no problems as they ripped off huge chunks of yardage via the run and the pass.  They eventually scored in 6-plays.  The 2nd team didn't fare as well as they failed to score.  In the end of that first session, both teams only scored one touchdown a piece.  From a spectator point of view, I would call both teams even at this point as both teams struggled a little on defense.

Greendale then faced Milwaukee Riverside.  This time the defense looked much better.  They looked faster and there were more bodies around the ball.  They did give up a touchdown even though Riverside fumbled on the 5 which Greendale recovered but they just let Riverside keep the ball there of which they scored on the next play.  Greendale's offense went to town scoring on their first drive in 6-plays and then on a long pass on the following drive.  At the end of this session, Greendale scored 2 TDs while Riverside only scored the 1 TD.

The last session pitted Greendale and Kenosha Tremper.  Greendale went on offense first and the same results happened as the starting group went right through Tremper's defense like gas through a funnel.  They ended up scoring twice on offense.  The Panther's defense now seemed at the top of their game as they held Tremper to just 1 first down all day.

After all of the dust settled, it appeared that the Panther's offense looked ready to go.  They had great success in both running and passing the ball.  The defense didn't do too bad either once they got their feet wet.  If there was any kind of weakness at all, it would probably be the line play on both sides of the ball, which everyone knew going in would be a concern.  The only reason for that, however is because they are young and inexperienced.
Greendale will now go into their game week preparation schedule as they will host the Cedarburg Bulldogs this Thursday night at Gavinski Field.  That game will start at 7:00pm.  If you fell like watching 2 games, get there at 3:00pm for the Varsity Reserve team will be playing Cedarburg too in a rare double header matchup.
