Panthers Stun Brown Deer In Woodland Conference Crossover

Brown Deer never knew what hit them as Greendale jumped on them early and often scoring all 47 points in the first half as they defeated the Falcons 47-14.

This was to be the first inter-conference showdown between the Woodland East and the Woodland West conferences.  Each team from their respective conferences would play each other.  The way it was set up is that the 1st place team from one conference plays the 2nd place team from the other conference and the 3rd would play the 4th and the 5th would play the 6th. Because Greendale was in 1st, that meant that they would play Brown Deer who was in 2nd in the East.  This would be a good measure to see where the teams really are in the scheme of things.  Well after Friday night, it was very obvious that the West Conference was the more dominate one as all of the teams with the exception of Pius XI beat their opponents rather handedly.  That included Greendale who dismantled Brown Deer 47-14 in a very lopsided game.  The scoring was fast and furious and before Brown Deer even knew what hit them, they found themselves behind 31-0 just in the 1st quarter alone.

Things got started on Greendale's first drive as Cody Kmetz caught a Josh Ringelberg pass who then picked up some down field blocking and scored from 76-yards out.

After a defensive stop, the Panthers would resort to their running game as Angel Ramirez took a pitch around the left side and out ran everyone to the end zone from 33-yards out.

Two minutes later, Greendale punched another one in as Ringelberg kept it himself and scored from 3-yards out.

The Panthers were not done yet as Kmetz hauled in another pass and scored from 27-yards out for Greendale's 4th touchdown of the night.

Then when Brown Deer thought that it couldn't get any worse, Panther running back Jake Zywicki took a pitch and raced 59-yards for yet another touchdown.  All of this happened in the 1st quarter as Greendale was up 31-0 at the break.

Greendale continued to show no mercy, as Zywicki got loose again up the sideline and scored from 63-yards out.

On the ensuing Brown Deer drive, the defense stepped in as cornerback Mitchell Brees intercepted a pass and scored from 20-yards out.

Then finally, Greendale had the Falcons pinned deep and ended up tackling the quarterback in the end zone for a 2-point safety.  All of this scoring happened in the 1st half.

Greendale dusted off their 2nd team for the 2nd half who failed to score due in part to the fact that there was a running clock so the 2nd half of the game only took a total of 30 minutes.  Brown Deer did manage to score twice in the 4th quarter to avoid the shutout.

Greendale finished the night with 447 total offensive yards while Brown Deer only managed 254.

There were a couple of milestones set Friday as well as quarterback Josh Ringelberg surpassed the previous 9-game season passing yards record by throwing for 1888 yards.  What's amazing about that is he still has 1 game left to add to that.  The previous record was 1866-yards held by Mike Hennessy back in 2007.  Also, head coach Rob Stoltz reached his 100th win which is another amazing accomplishment considering he has only been at Greendale for 14 seasons.

The stage is now set for the first inaugural Woodland Conference Championship game between Greendale (West Champion) and the South Milwaukee (East Champion) this Thursday night.  The game is scheduled to start at 7:00pm.
