Out To Make An Impact!

The heavily favored Greendale Panthers begin their 2013 season with a lot of experience and high expectations as all but 9 players return from last year's squad.

Panthers begin their quest for another title.

And just like that August is here and with that begins the start of high School football.  The Greendale Panthers have officially begun their 2013 season with their annual trek to Carroll University for the start of their two-a-day practices, which they have been doing for the last 6-years.  It's a way to get the team to not only get to know each other better, but to help them focus better on the tasks at hand and to give the players a little taste of the college life for they do spend the night in the dorms and eat at Carroll's dinning facility.  They practice two days there and then will return home to resume their normal schedule at Gavinski Field.

This year should prove to be very interesting for the Panthers as they return all but 9 players from last year's 6-4 squad.  That is a lot of players coming back, which equates to a lot of experience.  Because of that, it's no secret that Greendale will be heavily favored to win the Woodland West Conference this year.

Greendale will be returning their whole offensive backfield and almost all of their wide receivers from last year.  The only position that they will need to find a replacement will be at tight end as last year's tight end Peter Pekar graduated.  Greendale's offense was able to put up 334 points on the board last year giving them a per/game average of 33.4.  Steering that offense will be a very talented and athletic quarterback in Josh Ringelberg (Jr).  He not only is an accomplished passer but a formidable threat with his legs.  That will always pose a huge undertaking for other teams to stop.  Also returning in the backfield is Jake Zywicki (Sr).  He stepped in last year to fill in for injured senior Mike Scheidt and never missed a beat.  Senior Frankie Rutkowski will also be returning and help share the duties at running back as well.  The receivers coming back will all be names that Panther fans will recognize from last year.  They include Mitchell Brees (Sr), Cody Kmetz (Jr), Doug St. Onge (Sr), Nate Miller (Sr), and David Johnson (Jr) just to name a few.  Others expected to contribute this year will be Brian Goyette (Sr), Zack Schultz (Jr), and Tristian Pipp (So) along with other up and coming underclassmen.  If there was one area of concern, that would be the offensive line.  Last year's graduation took its toll on the Panthers so they will be in search of filling some shoes.  There are two O-linemen returning from last year, however, in Chris Halbur (Sr) and big Jake Maxwell (Sr).  At this point it's too early to see who else will be joining them but it's safe to say that the coaches will address that and be ready for the season opener on August 22nd.

The defense will find them self in a similar situation.  They gave up 198 points last year, which came to a per/game average of 19.8.  They are returning all but one of their defensive backs and all but one of their linebackers.  They will be in need of finding some defensive linemen however.  Returning in the defensive secondary is Jack Ringelberg (Jr), Brees, and St. Onge, Rutkowski, but they will be looking for others to step up as well.  The line-backing corps will return Pipp, Matt Schutte (Jr), Parker Bychinski (Sr), and seniors Chad Newton and Jake Hagmayer just to name a few.  The defensive line will return several players that did play last year but not in a starting roll.  They include Tim Ventura (Sr), Halbur, Maxwell, Jake Haumschild (Sr), and seniors Alan Dunday, Henry Reichenbach, and Manfred Lopes-Prado.

It's safe to say that there will multiple changes yet to come and other players not mentioned that will step up to the plate.  This happens every year which makes Greendale football that much more successful.  The one thing that can be guaranteed is that the Panther coaching staff will have all of the positions properly filled for the start of the first game.
