Opportunistic Panthers Take Advantage Of Everything

It's not often you see so many different ways of scoring touchdowns but Friday in Greendale, you saw it all. A field goal, a fumble return, an interception, and a blocked punt all for scores as Greendale defeated the New Berlin West Vikings 44-7.

If you were to ask the coaches of the teams that have played Greendale thus far, the one thing they will all say is don't make a mistake or turn the ball over around Greendale or they will jump all over you.  That's what happened Friday night as Greendale defeated the New Berlin West Vikings 44-7 on Homecoming night.

In the 1st quarter, Greendale scored on their opening drive with a conventional 16-yard pass play from Josh Ringelberg to Mitchell Brees.  Frankie Rutkowski made the point after and Greendale was up 7-0.  New Berlin came back to tie it up taking advantage of a Panther turnover 7-7 with 7:26 left in the same quarter.

Greendale then put another big drive together, but had to settle for a 23-yard Rutkowski field goal to make the score 10-7 with :44 seconds left in the 1st.  There was plenty of time for more points as Panther safety Jack Ringelberg picked up a Viking fumble and rambled 13-yards for another Panther touchdown. The kick was good making the score 17-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.

On the next Viking drive, Brees would jump a pass route for an interception and headed the other way untouched for a 30-yard pick-six.  That would end the scoring in the 1st half with Greendale on top 24-7.

The 3rd quarter saw Ringelberg hooking up with Cody Kmetz on a 41-yard TD pass.  A few minutes later, Greendale found themselves in the end zone again only this was by virtue of a blocked punt by Chris Phillips who then picked it up and scampered 26-yards to the end zone.  The score at the end of the 3rd was 37-7.

The last quarter saw Greendale scoring one more time on a Ringelberg pass to Ty Ramirez from 18-yards out.  The Panther defense kept the Vikings out of the end zone after their initial score making the final score 44-7.

Greendale (6-0) will travel to Wauwatosa West (3-3) next week to take on the Trojans.  This game will start at 7:00pm and will also be televised by Time Warner Sports 32.
