Village Attorney James Burns received a proclamation from the board Tuesday in honor of his 46 years of service for Greendale that will soon come to an end.
Burns was first elected as a trustee to the village board in 1966 and served through 1968. In 1969 he started in his current role as village attorney, which he will retire from Dec. 31.
Burns said he attended more than 1,100 meetings in the village and joked that he decided it was time to retire when he realized Michaels was only 2 years old when he began serving the community.
