Greendale Property Taxes: Where and How to Pay

Village Hall is open from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday and from 7:30 a.m. to noon Monday for year-end tax payments.

As 2013 approaches, so does the deadline for paying property taxes. The Greendale Village Clerk’s Office has been busy this week processing those payments.

One tip from Village Clerk Kathryn Kasza for taxpayers is to use the new “remit to address” envelopes for faster processing and to avoid waiting in-line.

Taxpayers who would like an income tax deduction for 2012 must pay the tax bill by Dec. 31.

If paying by mail, the payment must be postmarked by Dec. 31. Payments should be mailed to the Village of Greendale, Dept. 9070, PO Box 2186, Milwaukee, WI 53201-2186.

People may pay in-person at Village Hall from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 7:30 to noon on Dec. 31. There will be no cash refunds over $100. Refund checks will be issued in about three weeks.

A payment drop box is available at the east end of the Village Hall parking lot. Receipts will be sent for these payments. Taxpayers are asked to not deposit cash in the drop box. Payments placed in the drop box before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, will be credited with paying prior to the Dec. 31 deadline.

Paying in Installments

Property owners may choose to pay their taxes in installments. The first payment, which would be 50 percent of the tax bill, would be due by Jan. 31.

Credit or Debit Card Payments

The Village of Greendale accepts online payments for property taxes. There is a 2.5 percent convenience fee for this service.

Lottery and First Dollar Credits

In 2012 the Lottery Credit will again be applied to all owner occupied property tax bills.  The 2012 Lottery Credit is $110.65. The credit amount on your tax bill is based partially on the Greendale School tax rate.

This year every property tax bill for real property with a value in the improvement value field will again receive a First Dollar Credit. The 2012 maximum First Dollar Credit is $79.38.

If you do not receive the Lottery or First Dollar credits on the tax bill for your primary residence, you may still be eligible to file a claim to receive the credit if filed with your tax payment by Jan. 31.  Please contact the clerk's office for information.

More information about tax payments is available online from the village.
